Meet Marcus Brown | M. Aurelius: DJ & Bedroom Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcus Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marcus, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I sought out an artistic career because I love being able to express creativity in different forms.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Currently, Im on the climb of reaching new heights in my life. Before moving to California. I lived a life on cruise ships. Thats where I began dipping into djing. I didn’t believe I could create a life off of that alone. Yet I decided to move shoreside because everything seemed to be lining up for me here in California. I thought life was giving me an opportunity to live out my dream as a music producer and as an add-on; dj extraordinaire. Life had other plans. Many challenges came and went but the biggest one was not typical . Most people have an external opposition they can identify and muster strength from within to overcome it. But as a creative, my biggest opposition was and is me. I am always fighting perfection in all aspects. Always driven to a state of petrification because of the fear of the unknown. But now I am learning to embrace the chinks in my armor and recognize that people will relate not to my perfection but to my capability to vulnerable within my craft. Thats where I am currently. If the world were to know and understand anything about M. Aurelius, its that whatever he does is from a place of true authenticity and self expression.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, Thats a long winded answer —— I would want to take them first across the channel to Catalina Island. Its the prefect getaway and you can do some much to do there to ease into the Californian experience. Secondly upon reaching shoreside the next day, I’d take them to Six Flags, because they have the most roller coast and I need my adrenaline fix. Honestly that would be mostly for me. We would continue our experience the next day, by relaxing by the beach just outside of city limits in Malibu. Along the way back we’d stop and eat one of my favorite seafood joints; Malibu Seafood Fresh Fish Market. Depending on the time of year, I would end up taking them to Le Jardin the following day for the all day party, The Do-Over! OF course, my best friend would want to see all the cheesy tourist spots or stop at all the Insecure filming locations. Before they left, I would most likely pick a random dining spot to meet all my friends who live here in Los Angeles.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Im not quite sure. I believe my friends who invest in my future are currently the people I would like to give recognition to. Also, Kanye West for nudging me into a pursuit of musical expression via his monologue on “Last Call”.
