We had the good fortune of connecting with Margie Traxler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Margie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Quite simply put passion. I was fighting for the health of my children and myself. When I found out that the combination of wheat and sugar was burning little holes in my 6 year old daughter’s intestines a passion was born inside of me to discover the answer to the problem. A couple of years later, my middle son developed a problem with wheat, oat and sugar. Then my oldest son developed ulcer-like symptoms and we discovered his problem was with corn and sugar.
These events were the catalysts for my creation of Grain Free Mama’s Trade Secret formulations of baking mixes. I refused to accept that (1) my children were destined to develop autoimmune disorders and (2) that they were destined to envy everyone else’s food for the rest of their lives.
Nope! Peer pressure works both ways. I decided that everyone else would envy their food.
Within a couple of years, they were taking more and more food to school in their lunches. I asked them if they were really THAT hungry everyday and my daughter said, “No mommy, but everyone wants to eat my food because they feel better.”
All the above are the most important factors behind my success.
The success of Grain Free Mama’s brand lies in the unique and innovative Trade Secret formulations of our crepe, pizza crust, cookie and muffin mixes. They are not just moist and delicious, but are as good for you as they are good to eat. Truly healthy baked goods that uphold health.
We are meeting our customers where they are with not only the products, but additionally the educational resources (Grain Free for Beginners digital class to be released within the month, Grain Free Mama’s cookbook and Food Breakthrough Book) to come alongside people to offer the help that we would have loved to have way back in 2004 when our journey started.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Necessity was this mama’s reason, mine, of invention. No one else was going to fight for my children and I’s health like I was. There were no moist delicious tasting baking mixes or baked goods that were readily available…so I got to work creating. I employed my science background (Biology with a Microbiology specialization) and taught myself to be a Natural Food Scientist. I believed that working WITH nature, instead of trying to manipulate nature, was where the answers would be found.

Grain Free Mama’s Inc. (GFM) is a FoodTech Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) company that helps health conscious and special diet consumers alleviate the pain point of choosing between good health and good food. Grain Free Mama’s mission is to create and promote delicious gluten/grain/sugar free and botanical nut free products without compromising health and taste. Food technology is described as the place where science meets food. All Grain Free Mama’s formulations are naturally low inflammatory, light in digestion, and naturally satiating while having the delicious taste and texture of their conventionally made counterparts.

Our company strives to fill the void that exists in current product offerings, ranging from baking mixes to shelf-ready and frozen goods. Grain Free Mama’s goal is to forge a path for customers to eat for enjoyment without compromising good health. The company is currently focused on the CPG Segment (baked goods/baking mixes) of the market and will begin in the Better-For-You (BFY) Segment before growing into the corresponding mainstream grocery segments. Grain Free Mama’s is the ‘gold standard’ of healthy baked goods and baking mixes worldwide.

Getting to where we are today wasn’t easy, but was interesting and exciting every step of the way. I saw the problem not as an impossible twist of fate, but as an obstacle to maneuver around. I believed that our bodies have the potential to protect and heal us when we feed them properly. Discovering what feeding our bodies properly looked like and consisted of became my challenge.

Once the products and the know how was developed, my children and I were thriving both physically and mentally. People noticed and then began a decade of helping others. In late 2016, I made the decision to begin to form a company and in 2018, Grain Free Mama’s was officially established.

The biggest lessons I learned were to trust my passion and where it lead me through the failures and on to success. I played a lot of team sports when I was young and the dedication to the smallest detail and unwavering faith in practicing skills over and over again was invaluable. Having a goal and seeing it through was key. I simply did not waver in the face of the challenges. When something didn’t work, I saw it as an opportunity to pick myself up, grow and get better.

I believe that FAIL stands for First Attempt In learning. I am this quote; “The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.” — Steve Jobs.

I want the world to know that you can now eat make baked goods that have the taste and texture of the conventionally made ones that DO NOT undermine your health with Grain Free Mama’s. Come over to the healthy side with us.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Las Vegas has so many great places to visit. Let’s say it was springtime…

Monday – We would start with an electric bike tour of Red Rock, followed by a great meal at one of my favorite restaurants, Firefly. Then we might take in Eataly for a bit of time tasting later in the evening.
Tuesday – Breakfast at the Wynn buffet followed by a swim at the Circa Hotel with lunch and drinks by the pool. Follow up the evening with time spent walking the Freemont Street Experience and dinner at one of the fabulous pubs.
Wednesday – A trip out to see the Hoover Dam and museum, and then a great dinner at Archii’s Thai food restaurant.
Thursday – some shopping in the casino malls and walking on Las Vegas Blvd followed with taking in a Cirque du Soleil show (there are several to choose from).
Friday – Pack a lunch and head up to Mount Charleston for a hike and picnic, followed up with a magic show (David Copperfield, Penn & Teller, etc.) in the evening.

After all that, some R&R by the pool for a couple of days!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
(1) Dr. Don Colbert – he correctly diagnosed the problem back in 2004. (2) My 3 (adult) children (David, Jon and Mae), who have wholeheartedly supported me since the very start.
(3) Patty Moore – my sister, who is also a Natural Nutritionist, and who pointed me in the right direction and has always had my back!
