We had the good fortune of connecting with Margie Woods and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Margie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting Language of The Soul™ came from wanting to live in alignment with who I am. I’ve always been creative, and through my own journey I experienced firsthand how healing art was for working with my childhood trauma. Later, while earning my Masters in psychology, I connected the dots—I understood why it was healing and kept following what I already knew in my bones. I didn’t want the traditional therapy route; it felt too clinical and limiting. Starting my business gave me the freedom to bring those worlds together and create a space where women can reconnect with themselves through creativity in a way that feels real, safe, and freeing.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art has always been deeply personal—it started as a lifeline for my own self-care and healing, and it’s continued to be the thread I’ve followed throughout my life. I’m less interested in making “pretty” art and more focused on creating honest, raw containers of expression. My style is very rooted in words, but not in the obvious or literal sense. I often use asemic writing—marks that look like language but don’t spell anything out—as a way to move beyond meaning and drop into deeper layers of expression. For me, it’s about bypassing the thinking mind and letting something more truthful and soulful come through.
Getting to where I am today professionally hasn’t been a straight path. I’ve faced my share of challenges, from navigating my own healing from childhood trauma to building a business that didn’t quite fit into conventional boxes. It hasnt alway been easy, but I kept listening inward and trusting that thread of creativity to guide me. Every time I felt stuck or questioned myself, I returned to my own art practice—it always brought me back to center and reminded me why I do this work.
Along the way I’ve learned that the challenges are part of the process—they shape you, teach you resilience, and ultimately help you stand more fully in your truth. I’m proud that I’ve built a business and body of work that reflects not only my creativity, but also my deepest values: healing, freedom, connection, and authenticity.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand, Language of The Soul™ Studio, is that it’s not about performance or perfection. It’s about creating a safe space to reconnect with yourself through creativity. My story is one of healing and reclamation—finding freedom through self-expression, and then helping others do the same.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting, I’d definitely take them sailing (my other love). We’d head out of Marina del Rey and over to Catalina for a few days—I’d show them Emerald Bay, Cat Harbor, and Big Geiger. Catalina feels like California taken back in time—pure nature, away from the city. Its my sanctuary.
Back in LA, I’d take them to see some art—wandering Bergamot Station and then over to LACMA. Between time on the water, Catalina, and the art scene here, they’d get a real sense of the places I love most.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to the teachers and guides who gave me my wings. My original creativity teachers, Laurie Doctor and Deb Jones opened the door for me and showed me that art isn’t just about technique—it’s a way of listening to yourself and coming alive on the page. That foundation has stayed with me all these years.
I also want to acknowledge my current therapist, Ingrid Clayton, PhD. She’s been an incredible guide in helping me walk an even deeper path of healing and freedom. Her support has allowed me to keep growing personally, which ripples into the work I share with others.
