We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariana Guzmán Corrales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mariana, what inspires you?
My biggest inspiration is the people that surround me. I think people are beautiful and intriguing in endless ways. As a makeup/special effects artist, I draw inspiration from people’s life experiences and thoughts. These include age, scars, fears, dreams–beauty. People inspire me to transform something as simple as a thought, into a visual art form for an audience to learn from and appreciate.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Pursuing a makeup career has been risky and challenging, to say the least. It is one of those things that will bring you down dozens of times and you have to be willing to get back up every single time. In my experience, these challenges are worth it and what I get out of it will forever be more rewarding than anything else. There is nothing better than seeing your art and vision come to life for so many people to enjoy. It is also wonderful collaborating with different departments to create something truly impactful. The process is magical. Through it all, I have also had the pleasure of working alongside unbelievable creatives who I have built meaningful relationships with. I have learned that refusing to give up will eventually bring unforgettable and rewarding experiences.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who deserve recognition when it comes to acknowledging the positive impact they have had on my journey. A lot of that credit goes to two incredible mentors who taught me everything I needed to know to jumpstart my career. Dan Diana and Liz Pisano gave me all the tools and knowledge necessary. After learning so much from them, I felt more than ready and ecstatic to dive head-on into the makeup/SFX industry. Two other people who deserve recognition are Hannah Lauren and Fabian Lopez (Makeup Artists). Our makeup journey started together and continues to grow and flourish. They inspire me to continue being proactive towards my art daily and to be a good shoulder to lean on when the rough patches come along.
