Meet Marisela Oropeza | Artist and Art Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marisela Oropeza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
On a professional level, the arts keep me quite busy. My style of art revolves around Cubism, and I use elongated musicians as a way to interpret my passion for music. I love music and expressing it through art makes me feel incredibly fulfilled and connected to my creative side. The fusion between music and art is one that strongly resonates with my own life experiences for if I wouldn’t have been an artist, I feel that I would have been inclined to play music instead. I like to just sit and observe musicians play an instrument; their pose, their passion and their essence is profoundly connected and synergized so deeply that the instrument and the musician become one. This is very inspiring to me, and I like to represent this notion through my elongated characters, which create a sense of movement and rhythm in my work, reflecting the dynamic nature of music itself. My paintings become a visual representation of my passion and serve as a bridge between the auditory and visual realms.
As an artist, this is what I am most proud of. By expressing my love for music through art, I am able to create something beautiful, but also invite viewers to experience the emotions and energy that music evokes. My paintings become a means of connecting with others who share my passion for music and the arts, fostering a sense of harmony and connectivity between the two. I’d like to be able to inspire and touch the hearts of others through my paintings and continue to share my artistic vision with the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I personally like nature places to chill and relax, but above all, places where I can find solace and that can connect me to the earth and disconnect me from noisy cities and technology. I like to visit places that make me feel grounded, and yet, free like a bird. I like open skies that provide unobstructed views of the sky and that can evoke a feeling of freedom and expansiveness. Looking up at the stars, watching the clouds drift by, or witnessing a breathtaking sunrise or sunset can create a profound sense of connection to the universe while also reminding us of our own small place within it. So, if my friends were visiting the area, we would definitely explore different landscapes and find those special locations up in the mountains or along the beaches nearby.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this Shoutout to all of the individuals that have supported my journey as an artist and have created a positive impact upon my creative process; I feel blessed to have crossed paths with so many wonderful individuals that have helped shape my life experiences and artistic endeavors. My family and loved ones, for instance, have always provided words of encouragement and motivated me to seek new opportunities. My colleagues have demonstrated great support as I’ve been teaching the arts for so many years. My friends have always been there for me in times of difficulty and provided moral support whenever necessary. And I’m also grateful to all the people I’ve met that have genuinely shown great interest in my pieces and the work I do. I feel lucky to have been surrounded by so many wonderful people that filled my life with positivity and encouragement.
