We had the good fortune of connecting with Marissa Hutter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marissa, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I’ve noticed several key differences between Ayurveda and other holistic health practitioners. One major difference is our focus on digestion. There’s a lot of hype around smoothies and most people are unaware they are extremely difficult to digest. Ayurveda encourages you to eat warm foods because they are nourishing and easy to digest. Cold foods weaken that fire, and therefore inhibit digestion + metabolism. Weak digestion leads to gas, bloating, malabsorption, and toxicity in the body. My favorite part about Ayurveda is that it truly works with the whole body and teaches people how to become their own healer.

What should our readers know about your business?
As an Ayurvedic Wellness coach, I help women overcome digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, perimenopause symptoms and period pain, and learn to love their body through holistic health coaching and the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda.

We live in a society of diet culture that often overlooks the big picture. I am most proud of helping people make real and lasting lifestyle changes that have naturally reversed their symptoms. I am constantly motivated and excited about the opportunity to help women heal their relationship with food, love their body, and reconnect with the natural world.

I wouldn’t call building my own practice smooth. More like wild. I have found my voice by going against the grain of our overly medicated society and by learning to trust my intuition and advocate for my health. This has shaped my ability to help others tune into their body’s innate wisdom.

Every person has a unique body type. My brand is about personalizing care to address the root causes of imbalance, and to teach women how to understand their body, their symptoms, and ultimately to become their own best healer.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Griffith Park. I’d start with a sunrise hike, and then head to Silverlake to explore the cute cafes and secret stairways. I’d wander through Los Feliz and have a sunset picnic and Barnsdall Art Park.

Another morning I’d head to El Matador Beach in Malibu for a secluded and gorgeous day in the sun and salt water. I’d hit The Getty Villa for a gorgeous ancient Greek and Roman art experience and stop in Venice for a meal at Gjelina.

Throughout the week, I’d visit the Broad Museum in DTLA, and spend an afternoon at the Getty Center. I’d picnic and see a concert at The Hollywood Bowl, my favorite venue. And the trip wouldn’t be complete without a dinner at chi SPACCA, sitting at the chef’s table.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It takes a whole village of support to launch a business and I am deeply grateful to every person who has encouraged me and supported me in this wild ride. I especially want to give thank to my My Ayurvedic teachers, Mary Thompson, Susan Bass, and Dr. Lad, who have each shaped my understanding, dedication and passion into Ayurveda. This 5000 year old healing system has changed my life. I’d also like to shout out Angela Parker for believing in me and mentoring me from the very beginning. These amazing humans have been pivotal in my journey.
