We had the good fortune of connecting with Marissa Lauren and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marissa, how do you think about risk?
I think calculated risk taking is crucial. There is no growth without some risk. It may not always play out the way you want it to, but you learn and grow either way. Some of my biggest music achievements only happened because I was willing to put myself out there and trust in the process.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a singer/songwriter who writes heartfelt piano driven Pop music with heavy Indie Pop and Folk influences, plus the occasional sprinkling of R&B. I think I’m most proud of the touring I’ve been able to do over the last five years as an independent artist. My music has taken me all over the world & as someone who draws inspiration from traveling, being able to combine my love of sharing music with my love of adventuring has been so special! I’ve really missed the fun of planning and putting tours together during COVID19 but it has also got me more excited to record new music lately, and I’m hoping to finally record some songs I’ve been waiting to share for a while! I started my music career by teaching myself to play pop songs I loved on the piano. I didn’t want to have to rely on finding an accompanist so I decided to learn. That eventually led me to pick up ukulele and guitar (and really make sounds on whatever fun instruments I could find). My cover projects ultimately led me to explore music production. Today, I arrange, record, and produce music projects from my home studio. When I’m not writing, or collaborating with other artists and producers, you can find me exploring outside ! I try to spend my time hiking and camping whenever and wherever I can

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I’m a coffee lover so we’d definitely have to visit my favorite hometown coffee spot, Hi-Fi Espresso! Then we’d spend some time outside on the local trails and take in the ocean views. And no trip here is completely without a stop to my family friend’s pizza shop Bonello’s!! It’s the best New York slice in the South Bay ! So clearly it’s all about food and adventures for me haha Pre covid (or hopefully someday post) we’d spend the night listening to local music at Saint Rocke. Fun Fact: Saint Rocke is one of the first venues I played locally!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Megan Elizabeth! She’s one of my biggest supporters and she’s always encouraging me to go for the things I dream up. Also she’s a creative dreamer herself; she runs her own hair/makeup business!
