We had the good fortune of connecting with Maritza Westbrooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maritza, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by people who’s odds were stacked against them and still found a way to make it happen. Life is a matter of perspective, I think that when We finally understand that life happens for us and not to us, every single journey becomes an inspiration.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a small business owner specializing in the art of lash extensions and lash extension education. I began my journey in late 2016. I was working at a fitness center and I started to notice women who had long beautiful eyelashes that stayed perfect even right after a workout. After some research and asking some questions, I learned they were lash extensions. I dove in gathering any information about extensions I could find. I became obsessed with the idea of being my own boss and making my own schedule so that I could be more available for my family. Eventually that idea became a reality and I was able to leave my 9-5 to be a full time lash artist. The most challenging part was to take a leap of faith and leave my stable job. I worked with amazing people and I became very comfortable. The thought of going off and failing terrified me at the time. I have learned that in life and in business losing doesn’t mean you’re finished. It just means you have to find a different way. There is nothing wrong with failing if you learned something from it. You pick up your pieces, stick it all back together and you try again, now you have awareness and experience.

I am most proud and excited about my training courses. I love training new people to do what I do. I love watching them grow and flourish in their lash career. Most of all I love the financial freedom that this industry can provide for us as women. Especially women with families like Myself. There is so much room for growth in this industry. Not just behind the chair. This industry is in its infant stages and it’s only going to grow. They say eyes are the window to the soul. So eyelashes must be the curtains!. Lashes really do make a difference, it gives women the confidence to feel beautiful with very little effort. My intention is to empower every woman in my chair to look and feel beautiful when they walk out of my studio. The greatest gift is that I have developed amazing relationships with many wonderful women along the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I really enjoy nature and fitness. I would definitely have a different hiking trail set up for every day. Then we would head to the beach! There are so many just in the South Bay to chose from. That is the beauty of L.A! There is a little bit of everything for everyone. From nature to entertainment. As far as food goes, Gardena is a must the whole city has amazing food, anything you want to eat you’ll more than likely find it in Gardena.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My friends, family, and clients who’ have recommended my work to others or somehow contributed to my growth. My beautiful children and my husband who’ have always been so supportive in everything I get myself into. My parents and siblings who encourage me every single day. Most of all to my guardian angels, my Grandmother’s.
