We had the good fortune of connecting with Marketta P. Wilder and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marketta P., how do you think about risk?
“If you dare nothing, then when the day is over, nothing is all you will have gained.” I remind myself of this daily, I’ve come to learn that no great success is accomplished without great risks. As a singer/actress and writer, I am constantly taking risks! I work in an industry where my creativity and talent are constantly being judged. I spend hundreds of hours working on projects, understanding that people may or may not love it. However, choosing to share my creativity with the world is a risk that I’ve had to grow to love. I’ve found that some of my greatest blessings came after I chose to take a risk. I would even argue that the greater the risk, the greater the reward. The answer will ALWAYS be “No” if you never ask. Humans hate rejection. The thought of embarrassment or hearing the word, “NO” paralyzes us. We lean more towards the thought, “What if it doesn’t work out?” instead of believing that it actually could. At the end of my life, I want to feel as if I dared greatly. I don’t want any regrets. I want everything that’s meant for me! Yes, there are days when I am afraid that the risks won’t yield a reward. However, I force myself to “do it afraid.” It gets easier to take bold (and calculated) risks over time!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
2020 changed the way I approach my art forever. Being quarantined and isolated for an entire year gave me the time that I needed to examine the art, and messages that I’m putting into the world. I’ve realized that I AM enough. And not only am I enough, I’m dope and interesting enough to incorporate all of who I am into my art. I’m very excited about the new music and visuals I’m releasing. I’ve never had so much fun recording and creating! I’m trying my best to throw all of me into my art. I use to self edit ALOT. Now, I’m just letting it fly and flow. I have a single dropping soon and an EP that’s almost finished. I’m very excited for the world to hear it! This journey has not been easy, but it has been worth it! Sometimes I feel overwhelmed because of all of the hats I wear. I’m an artist as well as an entrepreneur. I also have a business (Moss Boss LLC.) and a non profit (Wilder Artists Inc.) There are no days off! But I’ve found that setting boundaries and carving out lots of “me time” keeps me grounded. I also incorporate daily practices such as exercise, meditation, journaling, and drinking lots of water. I’m very conscious of what I put into my physical body, because I need to feel energized daily. I have way too much on my plate to feel sluggish and lethargic.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a tough question, because we haven’t been anywhere in over a year. lol! Most of my friends and family who visit are from Chicago (my home town). I’d definitely take them to beaches. Manhattan Beach is my favorite beach to actually lay out on. I’d take them to Santa Monica/Venice beach to walk around and see some sights, and play on the pier. And I’d definitely get them to Heisler Park in Laguna Beach to watch the sun set. Because this IS LA….I’d have to take them to a dispensary or two. The dine in restaurant options are pretty limited due to covid-19, so we’d probably be about that food truck life. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been blessed to have family and friends that love and support me. But God is the MVP in my life. I’m not talking about some bearded, man in the sky. I’m talking about the infinite energy/being that generates and fuels the universe and beyond; the God the supersedes gender, race and religion. My connection to the source manifests through all of the people in my life. God speaks and works through us all! So I could give credit to individuals, but it all tracks back to the source. Thank you God. Because of you, I AM.
