We had the good fortune of connecting with Savannah Starr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Savannah, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
One of my favorite books is called “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. My favorite quote from the book that I now bring into my everyday business mindset is “burn your ships”. By burning your ships, by removing any available source of retreat, you will become fully committed in your decision. This is very important to me as it teaches me to believe in myself and to take the risks. By burning my ships, whatever decision I’ve made, I have no other choice than to succeed. Gosh it gives me chills thinking about how important this book and that specific quote has been in my journey with Haute Sugar Co. If you are reading this and you are in the middle of making a decision I urge you to make it and burn your ships ladies and gents, believe in yourself. I believe in you!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Haute Sugar Co. is a couture cotton candy company based on the Central Coast of California, or more specifically San Luis Obispo. San Luis Obispo aka SLO is where I grew up so I find it thrilling beyond belief that this is where I have decided to start the beginning of my sugary empire. At Haute Sugar Co. we have two mobile cotton candy carts serving all of California. We specialize in corporate events, weddings, wine industry events, sorority shindigs and more. At Haute Sugar Co. we are known for our mouth wateringly delicious cotton candy flavor combinations, sweet and savory puffs, and more recently the booze infused, yup we do it all. One of the first puffs we created is called the “Wakey, Wakeyy, Eggs and Bakeyyy” – it’s a juicy cantaloupe flavored cotton candy puff garnished with salt cured duck eggs (from a local farm of course), crispy prosciutto, and local arugula micro greens. Woweey let me tell you it is DELISH. I’ve owned Haute Sugar Co. for 4 years and in late October of 2018 I decided to rebrand. This was one of the best decision I have made thus far in my journey. This rebrand allowed me to have a powerful presence, a new meaning, and ecstatic new energy to show the world I am here to stay in a BIG PINK FLUFFY kind of way. It allowed me to book more events due to my new found energy and those events lead to me being at over 5 Google (yup GOOGLE) events in a matter of three months, working with huge companies like Square, Eventbrite and eventually being noticed by Marc Jacobs. Needless to say this catapulted my business to new heights at the end of 2019. Then at the peak of my career thus far, covid-19 hit. Forcing me to completely stop in my tracks into the unknown and wait, along with the rest of the world. Here we are now at the end of 2020 in the midst of this global pandemic. I’ve had to find the light in these unfortunate times, and stay focus. I am so grateful that I get to continue on with HSC and use this time to dig deep into who I am as a company and strategize towards becoming a national brand. I am pivoting with the times and I couldn’t be more proud of myself, and the constant support from my followers and customers. A note to 2021 – I cannot wait to show you what i’ve been working so darn hard on. A sneak peak of our Haute Holiday collection coming December 2020 so mark your calendars Hauties. We have some sweet stuff coming your way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Awww I love this. I have so many people that deserve recognition for supporting moi on my Haute journey. Even those who doubted me, aren’t those always the best motivators? Here’s to the haters being the best motivators #cheers. BUT this shoutout goes to the love of my life, my Fiance – Joshua James. Joshua being a successful entrepreneur and haute hustler himself adds so much value to not only my life but my first love, my company. Joshua encourages me to think BIGGER and BOLDER and that there truly are no limits to what I can accomplish when I set my mind to it. Willy Wonka is my Idle, someone I aspire to be and Joshua reminds me that – “if Willy Wonka can do it, so can you.” I know, I know I hit the flipping jackpot of partners didn’t I?! #blessed. Joshua guides and supports me daily. Making sure that I stay on my pink brick road towards my aspirations. He does this all whilst building his own empire through Custom Built USA. His days are filled with hustle galore but he never forgets to shower me with his luminous love, contagious laughter (my favorite thing on this planet), and of course never forgetting to start my morning hustle with my grande iced London fog with an extra pump of vanilla. Joshua not only encourages me to dream, he helps execute a plan of action for said dreams. Up until now I’ve always been solo in the pursuit for success with Haute Sugar Co. and having someone so loving, willing, capable, hardworking like I have never seen before, and a dreamer himself is the best thing that has ever happened to not only myself but the future of my Haute Sugar Co Empire. Joshua James – I love you. I cannot wait to show this world what we are made of, or better yet what delicious couture cotton candy we can make. One puff at a time. Let’s do this shall we?!
