We had the good fortune of connecting with Marley Rey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marley, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by people who are determined to never give up despite any circumstance. I especially love learning about stories of women who have had to overcome difficulties in life. I find all women to be incredibly amazing whether you are a mother, an athlete, teacher, artist, activist, entrepreneur, etc, women are powerful and can do anything they set their mind to. Being a woman in this society is not easy, so I applaud women everywhere who never give up.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Right now it’s super important that we focus on the SAG-AFTRA & WGA strikes. I stand in solidarity and am hopeful for a positive outcome. This is such a crucial time in our industry and I feel honored to be around so many incredible artists on the picket lines. Our future is bright! That said, I feel proud of myself for getting back into acting after some years of feeling lost. When I first entered into the business I didn’t quite know how nor have the tools on how to navigate the unique hardships of the industry. As a result, I gave up pursuing acting as a career for quite some time though I knew I would always return back. I trusted that life would tell me when I was ready, so last year I decided I would give myself another chance and 10 films later, I feel very grateful for the experiences I’ve had as of recent and one of my greatest joys of being a part of various films has been the community that’s been built. I have been fortunate to collaborate with so many incredible actors & filmmakers so far and feel very honored to have been a part of creating their beautiful & thrilling stories.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love being outdoors so whether it’s a drive to Malibu, Griffith Park, or a rooftop in DTLA, that to me are some the most magical parts of LA. Watching live music will also be mandatory as well as seeing a game such as: Angel City FC, a Dodger or a Laker game. I also love to spend time in Highland Park & Echo Park and if it’s not in LA, we will obviously be at Disneyland sipping on a cocktail in Oga’s Cantina.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The person who has been my greatest champion since birth would be my beautiful mother, Jacqueline, who deserves all the recognition in the world. An educated Latina woman from NYC who raised me as a single-mom, I will forever look up to her and be grateful for all she has done for me. From auditioning for Soul Train to obtaining 2 Master Degrees & advocating for the betterment of children in her career, I know that the influence of my mother has made me who I am today. Any success that I have achieved will always be reflected by her unwavering love and support.
