We had the good fortune of connecting with Marlys Regina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marlys, how do you think about risk?
I think that normal is boring. I love when people are be unapologetically FULLY themselves, and that comes with risk. After studying neuroscience on the track to get my MPH in Public Health, I took a risk and deferred my acceptance to George Washington University to launch my wellness business online. Back then influencer wasn’t really a word yet in the way it is today. Most people thought I was crazy, that I would get into referring my favorite wellness products online for a way to diversify my income. But taking that risk, and believing in myself, moving cross country from Pittsburgh, PA to Los Angeles knowing only 2 people (2 of my greatest mentors) was a RISK. It wasn’t safe, I had no where to live, to call my own. I think of risk as necessary process in growth. Feeling the fear and doing it anyway. I could go on and on about this.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I partner with companies that align with my integrity and standards for how I live my life. Some people could call that an “influencer” but I have been referring products to people before that word was even coined (most people have). I help, primarily women over the last 7+ years, monetize online in the wellness space- the difference is with this business model we teach,- there is an even playing field. We don’t care how aesthetically pleasing you are, your race/sex/religion, how many years you studied typical education- I believe that a “follower” count isn’t the currency that determines your worth, or if you can earn income online. I’m interested not in followers, but in creating leaders. You can be “influential” to 5 people, 10- and be able to impact people lives.
There is so much uncertainty on how to earn income online, and so many people are mysterious about this. I am committed to breaking that barrier for anyone who is hungry and aligned with integrity, as in you would want to partner with products you ACTUALLY use- not just to receive income or to gain clout because “everyone else is working with that brand.” I work with my clients (whether they have an online presence or they are just starting out) expand and monetize their online offering in the health and wellness space through product alignment. Life’s so busy, so I am all about streamlining-so I offer convenient plant-based nutrition delivery’s my clients can keep up their energy for their projects and remain healthy.
One of my favorite lyrics from Jay-Z is from the song BOSS “Here we say you broke if everybody gets broke except for you” and that really resonates with me. It’s great to have success, but it’s more fulfilling to elevate those around you to their greatness. I have an abundant mindset and believe that there is so much space online to earn income and create an impact in people’s lives.
I want people to know that your life gets to work. You get to live your dream and it can be extremely overwhelming at times but the book The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson is so true. The compound effect in our habits and our goals DO create change over time. I stopped comparing myself to others and took 100% responsibility for my life and what I wanted to change. Every day I am intentional about creating my life the way I want to experience it and inspire others to bring forth their most authentic self.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Yes! So I am big on adventure. The “area” to me in anything in a 2 hour radius. We would start off in San Diego and get the best Plant Based Thai food from Pulmeria in University Heights and drive up the coast to Solana Beach and spend time in the sparkling water-it literally glitters. Then we’d stop in Huntington Beach and eat at LSXO (just trust me), followed by a bike ride along the water. Then we would head up to LA where we would go to The Santa Monica Proper Hotel (yes it’s a super hot spot right now but the aesthetic is so on point and the food is actually good). Then we would play tennis, followed by a dreamy drive to Malibu to enjoy a beach picnic with goodies from Vintage Grocers. If we were really feeling adventures we may go to Palm Springs and stay at Korakia for a staycation. I’m all about curating your best experience based off of food you love, people who bring your energy up- just because a spot is “hot” doesn’t mean you’d find me there- it’s got to have SOUL.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to acknowledge my mentor’s Zach & Eden Slobin, who took me in as a 22 year old who had no financial literacy or gameplan to launch a business successfully. They guided me with friendship, tough love and to systems, tools, and resources to learn the in and outs of leveraging and aligning with companies/brands that provide high integrity product alignment. Also can’t forget mom and dad for their support/love as well!
