We had the good fortune of connecting with Marnesha Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marnesha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up I was very active in sports. I played basketball throughout high school and continued throughout my collegiate years at a Division I school. After college, I no longer had basketball or anyone holding me accountable to remain physically active. Once I stopped being active, not only did my physical health suffer from a lack of movement and a poor diet, my mental health suffered as well from depression.

I slowly began challenging myself physically and mentally. I began making healthier eating choices, getting back into the gym… both on the basketball courts and in the weight room. As I continued to do so consistently, I started to realize that I felt better overall. I had more energy, I was less depressed and I just felt good!

During the pandemic, many of those around me started to experience much of what I went through after college and I suggested to them, “just move”, “get out and move your body”. Those suggestions then led to those around me asking for workouts and for me to train them, so I did so.

With my background in mental health and my love for physical activity, I started to connect the two to help others become fit from the inside out.

I’ve always been told that if you do something you love, you’ll never have to work a day in your life. I started to realize the passion I had for helping others mentally and physically. So, I took my passion to the next level with becoming a Certified Personal Trainer and turned it into a business. A business where I can do what I love and connect the dots between mental health and physical health.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
M. Hall Athletics is all about becoming fit from the inside out. At M.Hall Athletics, we believe that mental health and physical health go hand in hand. Without one, the other suffers. My background in mental health has allowed me to connect with where people are mentally to better assist them physically. Understanding the impact that mental health has on the physical movement. I am inspired daily by the choices that my athletes have made by choosing themselves and choosing their health through M. Hall Athletics.
It excites me to see others happy, confident and in control of their lives. I could not be where I am today if others had not trusted me on their journey and remained consistent in my vision and programs.

Starting this business was not easy, there were a lot of times where I doubted myself and my ability to help others. Whenever I thought about walking away, God found a way to bring me back whether it was with more athletes or someone simply thanking me for being a part of their journey. I stopped thinking “what if it doesn’t work out” and started believing that it would. This journey in starting a business has allowed me to learn that when you have a vision and a dream you go for it no matter where you are in life, it has also taught me the that being a service to others is above all things.

M. Hall Athletics is a business that serves everyone, no matter who you are or where you are in life. We are a community that meets you where you are despite what you feel mentally or see physically. I have felt the disconnect when the mental health and physical health are not aligned and needed a community to lift me up, M. Hall Athletics is now that community for others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in LA… There is so much to do!

You definitely have to go to the beach! Venice Beach has so much to do out there. From entertainment, to shopping, to restaurants and street vendors!

Can’t come out to LA and not get tacos and try the vegan food! So many restaurants to choose from.

We definitely would have to walk Hollywood Boulevard, to see the stars.

Then going for a hike in Malibu to see the waterfall followed by delicious lobster roll.

Also, going to take a walk up the Culver City Stairs to see the amazing view.

Definitely a day party and brunch on a Sunday because that’s what we do in LA.
Last but not least, Disneyland. Because, I would end the list with the happiest place on earth.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank those that helped me as I stepped out in faith on this God led journey. My business is where it is today because of the love and support I’ve had from my family, friends and community. Those who have trusted me on their journey, believed in me and pushed me to keep moving forward.

A very special thank you to my deceased brother, Mark Hall II, for continuously wrapping his arms around me and walking with me on this journey. This one is for you.
