We had the good fortune of connecting with Martin Reid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Martin, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I felt like it was important to amplify the voices of people trying to navigate the quarantine. I have been supporting the Pilates space, studios, and individuals through a daily Instagram Live show called Core Conversations. The Core Conversations Podcast spotlights the heroes in the Pilates space allowing the world to be introduced to some great movers and thinkers. This amplification of their gifts and talents has opened doors for teaching opportunities for me and my Boutique Pilates Space, Reid Method Pilates Studio.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started two businesses in 2020: A Pilates Studio and Podcast. I am a sport conditioning specialist / Pilates coach and I have a Master’s degree in Counseling, so it’s a unique skill set. On top of that, I am a male Pilates Teacher and a visible minority as well to add to my Unicorn Status! I got here by consistency: I started in 2002 and been posting on social media as @realmendopilates to get to my niche market of men who need Pilates but do not know what it is. Pilates podcast Core Conversations is an IG live daily and I have had almost 200 guests since last March
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Mississauga, I would take them to the Port Credit area to enjoy the beautiful waterfront. There are also great forests and trails. We would hit up the best West Indian Restaurants in the City. Lastly, we would go into Toronto to enjoy the great multicultural experience and the beautiful architecture (Pre-covid, I would have hit up every live music spot on King Street).
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to my wife and business partner. Alexandra is the “I have an Idea” person, my creative person and my cheerleader. Everything including the name Core Conversations came from her. There are days I feel like I am the hired talent, and she is the brains in this operation, so shout out to her.
