Meet Martina Albertazzi | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Martina Albertazzi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Martina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have been passionate about visual arts since I was a teenager. After a master’s degree in journalism and a couple of internships for different publications I knew that I wanted to work with photography. Working on my own made the most sense to me because it gave me the freedom to explore different types of photography and start some collaborations that I still have today.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Working as a freelance photographer is always challenging. There are ups and downs, but I wouldn’t choose any other career. When I am on assignment or on set that’s where I feel the happiest. I am not sure I learned completely how to overcome the challenges yet, there are good times and times that are a little harder, but I feel really lucky to have been able to make my passion for photography a full time job.
I work on commission for publications and companies, but what I love most is developing long term personal projects. For the past two years I have been working on a photo series about nomadic life in the western US. It’s a project that holds a special place in my heart, because it gives me the chance to roam around some very beautiful areas for weeks and meet people with the most amazing stories.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Yucca Valley, California, a high-desert town about two hours east of LA. This part of the Mojave Desert is so beautiful and full of great places to see if you love the outdoors, especially in the winter when temperatures are not to high. When I have friends and family visiting I usually love to start the day with breakfast at C&S Coffee Shop, the best diner in the area or to stop at Luna Sourdough for a quick and delicious pastry, followed by a hike in the Joshua Tree National Park.
After that I always love to make a stop at the Noah Purifoy Desert Art Museum to walk around the many eclectic sculptures assembled by the artist between 1989 and 2004.
And then I head down to Morongo Valley for an early dinner and drinks at Spaghetti Western. The restaurant is an historic landmark here in the desert. The owners Jasmine and Lorenzo are the sweetest and most welcoming people, and the rest of the team is awesome. Food and cocktails are delicious and they have live music every night!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The support of my entire family has always played a fundamental role in my career. When I travel for personal projects I love doing it with my husband, our daughter and our two dogs. They make every experience a lot more fun and memorable. I was also lucky enough to meet some photographers, editors and mentors on my path that guided me since college and have been a constant source of inspiration.
Last but not least I am grateful everyday for the people that decide to work with me and appreciate my vision.
