Meet Martina Vinci | Singer/Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Martina Vinci and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Martina, what principle do you value most?
Authenticity. The listener, the reader, the viewer, can understand if they are in front of something true, vulnerable, imperfect, or if you are showing off without a real need. For me, music is self-analysis. I write what I would not have the courage to say, sometimes it hurts, but it is the deepest way I know to discover myself.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I don’t think making art means being special. In my experience making music is a necessity and I think it comes from the sensitivity with which you look at the world-the more empathetic and curious you are, the more you will catch details that others don’t notice. The more you are in touch with the deepest parts of you, the wonderful ones and the terrible ones (especially the terrible ones!), the more what you bring out will resonate with those who will listen. They don’t need to have gone through the same experiences, they will have gone through many others and in some of them they will have felt the same emotions you’re talking about, that is your point of contact, your connection.
Even as a songwriter for other artists I think I need a lot of empathy and listening skills. I gently walk into their stories, into their lives, with extreme respect. I ask myself, “When did I experience the same emotion you’re telling me about? Perfect Martina, now reconnect with that part of you and canalize it through the life of this new human being!”. I also pay close attention to the language they use when they talk to me, so that I can use the same vocabulary in our songs and they can recognize themselves in every word and expression.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live split between two cities. My roots are in Genoa, with its sea air, alleys, cranky people, lifelong friends, family and the streets I know like my pockets (this is an italian set phrase!).
While my branches are now in Milan, between the Navigli and the bike paths, the recording studios and the plant stores (in which I would live forever!).
I used green metaphors not randomly! My house is FULL of plants, in fact we nicknamed it house-forest! My home would definitely be the starting point of the tour, during one of the dinners I like to organize with friends, music, food, board games and laughs. The day after we would probably continue walking free around the city, let’s see where our legs take us! I always love to be discovering new corners, when I have the time to do so! I would take you to my favorite plant stores or I’d get excited about some insignificant detail I suddenly find out, maybe we would stop at a little bookstore or have an ice-cream in the park before visiting a museum or the cathedral square. I like to improvise!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Help! It is really hard to choose only one person! Okay, I dedicate my Shoutout to my mom.
THE funniest and most creative person of the family,
the one who acts as the glue between us,
who makes silly jokes,
who asks you the same questions 20 times just because she cares about you,
but knows when to give you the space you need.
