We had the good fortune of connecting with Marva Soogrim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marva, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
With 40+ years of experience in newborn care and mommy care, I know that I can help the world of new parents bring a lot of ease to their parenting challenges thus changing the trajectory of families’ lives. So many families go through the hardships of the unknown when they first start a family. Having a wealth of information from traveling with my work and studying different types of scenarios and solutions, there isn’t a problem I feel challenged by. Through my company Marvalousbabies, parents will have the opportunity to subscribe to my teachings and other offerings, together with my words of encouragement so they can build on their own resilience.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My company Marvalousbabies was founded with the intention to help soothe the woes of new parenting. I am a master of bringing “Calm to the Chaos” of parenting, which sets me apart. What all parents need to know is that my Marvalous work offerings and my words will always make them feel it’s their safe place.

Coming from Trinidad to the United States at 21 years old, I decided to leave what I had known there to begin anew in America. My first obstacle was winter. I had never experienced wintertime. I found ways to adjust and adapt because those are two qualities that have really helped me in coping with new climates and lifestyle traditions.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Food, wellness and some retail therapy would all be part of a week long trip. One favorite breakfast spot of mine is the Fairmont Hotel in Santa Monica. I fell in love with the architecture of the hotel from watching the Sir Anthony Hopkins movie, “Fracture.” The restaurant is in the lobby of the hotel and there is a beautiful koi pond and pool outside. You feel a sense of relaxation and calm. A great place to go swimming so you can unwind and get some exercise is the Annenberg Community Beach House on the Pacific Coast Highway. It is convenient and you can do so much, including riding the bike path, walking a few miles along the shore or just relaxing on the beach. I do a little bit of each thing. Malibu Pier offers many views of the ocean. You can enjoy watching the surfers ride the waves and the people fishing on the pier, relax at the Malibu Farm restaurant and then enjoy a bit of retail therapy at the Ranch at the Pier shop. The shop carries a wide range of rare finds and fun items for the whole family. These are a few must-dos during your week long stay.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Along the way, there were times when I felt like I was going to crumble due to the amount of work I had to do for the world. Elizabeth Berkley Lauren would always feed me words of encouragement letting me know how much my work will benefit generations. And for that, I want to give her a shoutout!
