We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Christopoulos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mary, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking has played a HUGE role in my life. I knew that pursuing acting was taking a big risk, but I told myself that if I didn’t try, I would look back and wonder “what if?” I made it a priority to take risks in life becuase I think that if you do, you will be surprised about how many wonderful things can happen.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Acting has always been a huge part of my life. It started as me and my brothers staying up really late watching movies together growing up. This in when I started to fall in love with acting. I love the storytelling and making people relate or feel a certain way. I didn’t always think acting could be a career for me. I got a degree in Journalism from Indiana University, but when I moved to Los Angeles to work in the corporate world, there was a nagging feeling in me. That’s when I knew that acting is all I ever wanted to do, and if I don’t try it now, then I will regret it. I left my 9-5 corporate job and enrolled in classes at Playhouse West and will always remember how that was the best decision I could have ever made. I’ve learned that if you don’t take those chances to follow your passion, then you might regret it someday, and I know that I don’t want to live my life regretting it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are SO many amazing spots here in LA. I live in the Hollywood area, so one of my favorite places to get drinks and have a groovy time is Good Times at Davey Waynes. It’s a 70s themed bar and they have the best 70s playlist that you will have to dance to! I also recommend checking out Amoeba Music. It’s a rad record store that has every band you can ever think of. They also have an impressive collection on DVD’s that I like to browse and buy for a movie night! Also, their band tees and other merch are unreal.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I can’t thank my family, boyfriend and friends enough for all of their love and support. My parents have been my biggest champions for my career, my brothers have always given me words of encouragement, and my boyfriend has been the most loving and supportive person. I can’t thank them enough!
