Meet David Gulley: Producer/ DJ/ Label Owner/ Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with David Gulley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Easy…… you don’t quit
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart is my work ethic, my sound, my team, and my approach to all of this. I’m very self-aware, and I’m different because I’m tryna share my blessings. It’s been a lot of trials and tribulations, a lot of late nights, a lot of slick talking and false promises. We’re still on that same journey, but that’s life and we keep pushing on because that’s what we have to do. What have I learned? Patience is key, consistency is key. Just keeping a good energy, being a man of your word, and doing right by people. It’s not necessarily that I want people to know something, I just want them to respect the craft and take the time to experience the music. Once somebody really takes the time to listen to my music or the music on Shadow Temple, they really can recognize what we got going on here and how special it is.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had someone visiting Detroit, I would take them to Paramita Sound fasho. It’s got a great vibe and lots of great records to choose from. Also City Wings, that place is my spot. In terms of food, I’d prolly have to hit up El Ray’s too, get them good authentic tacos in Southwest.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m very grateful for the Shadow Temple Records family, we always support each other in life and music and I wouldn’t be where I am today without all of them. Specifically, Ashton Woods has been a great friend and mentor to me throughout my music career, I can always reach out to him if I have questions or if I’d like some outside perspective. Besides that, I’m just grateful for all of the people that support my music and help me do what I love to do.
