We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Kennedy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mary, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I really like working for myself and finding my own destiny. It is really creative. Being an actor, comic and teacher., I have realized, I learn from so many. But I also know I do my best working for myself. I do have some people who work for me,. The truth is that they know more than I do sometimes and that is totally ok. I like that I don’t know everything. I am still learning. As a boss I like to hire people who are self starters and bring something I don’t have to the table.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Professional Actress and Comic. I also teach Actors aged 3 to 83 through Youth Acting Biz and The Biz Studio. I started professionally acting in high school, majored in Theatre Education with a concentration in Acting and Directing from Emerson College. I am also a professional comic. My first break was co-starring on ER and just recently playing “New Fiona” on Shameless for 8 episodes. I always knew I was funny and my mom who had a band was always supportive. I had a wonderful talented group of people who have supported me along the way. The comedy community even on zoom is really small and we have supported each other in this time on zoom comedy. I also came up with an amazing group of comics who happen to be women. We are still friends to this day.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely love Malibu, it makes me feel like I am on vacation. The hiking trails in LA are fantastic and Franklin Canyon makes me feel like I am in Maine. I love the outside dining up and down Ventura blvd. In one day I can be at the beach, the mountains and back to my house in San Fernando Valley. I love LA even in these times.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Paul Jacek is our Artist in Resident of The Biz Studio which is a Professional Acting Training Program for Adults. He is conservatory trained from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He was also a writer for Joan Rivers. His acting, comedic and writing talent, really helps make The Biz Studio a well rounded training ground.
