We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Komick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mary, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had worked as a a freelance stylist and in-house photoshoot stylist throughout the beginning of my career, but creating campaigns and working on photoshoots wasn’t as fulfilling as helping friends and family go through their own style transformation using the clothes in their closets. That’s where the heart of my current business lies, and what inspired me to leave my 9-5 and start my business at just 25 years old.

I also started my business at the beginning of the pandemic, which helped me master virtual styling as my clients were all over the country and wanting to get dressed in something other than loungewear while working from home. As ambitious coaches, consultants, and professionals, these women needed clothes that transitioned from desk to dinner, day to night, etc., which is what led me to create The Work to Weekend Wardrobe℠ Experience.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a Personal Stylist and CEO of Mary Komick Style. I am based in Los Angeles but work with female professionals and CEO’s all over the country to help them discover their personal style & create their Work to Weekend Wardrobe℠.

As a Personal Stylist, I help my clients discover the “why” behind their wardrobe using fashion psychology techniques to cut out their closet chaos and discover effortless, everyday dressing. As someone who went from a 9-5 job to entrepreneurship, I know first-hand that your image is your business card. I created the Work to Weekend Wardrobe℠ experience to help other ambitious women like myself step into their next level style to attract game-changing clients and new opportunities.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a West Side of LA girl, so I’d of course make sure we hit my favorites spots in Venice and Santa Monica like the Venice Canals, shopping on Abbot Kinney, dinner at Dudley Market and Gran Blanco, and drinks at The High rooftop of course. We’d definitely hit the beach in Santa Monica or even Point Dume in Malibu. It wouldn’t be a trip to LA without going to a farmer’s amrket to enjoy fresh produce and fun eats, and there’s one in every neighborhood to explore. I’d probably avoid the tourism of Rodeo Drive and Beverly Hills – but there’s fabulous nightlife in West Hollywood for a comedy night or GNO. If we wanted to head all the way east, I love bringing friends to Simón and Bar Maruno. There’s always fun things to do in LA!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The book, Dress Your Best Life: How to Use Fashion Psychology to Take Your Look and Your Life to the Next Level by Dr. Dawnn Karen is what inspired me to study fashion psychology and integrate it into my styling process as I started my business. Knowing the “why” behind your wardrobe: the shopping habits you have, the outfits you get stuck in, the colors you gravitate towards (or don’t!) are all based on the psychology of fashion. Using the knowledge I gained in this book, I was able to adopt many of these concepts into tangible ways for my female professional and CEO clients to learn how to leverage their personal style to achieve their next level in life.
