We had the good fortune of connecting with Matan Koplin-Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matan, what do you attribute your success to?
The people I work with. I’m incredibly grateful to have a supportive management team, label, and bandmate. Surrounding yourself with great people makes everything easy, and makes the whole process much more fun!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My music blend influences from indie rock and electronic music to make a genre we’ve been calling “delusional pop.” I’m currently releasing singles to support my upcoming EP, Mania Days, which is basically a hero’s journey about confusion and escape. Five years ago I thought I would go to medical school, and now I’m an artist in Los Angeles – so as you can imagine, it’s been an interesting ride. During my most difficult periods, my defence mechanism was to escape the problem – socialize, daydream, overuse social media, etc. This EP is sort of a dedication to that cycle, an exploration on how I react to suffering and hardship.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would probably eat at the Taco Zone truck on Alvarado St. in Echo Park for every single meal.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have two shoutouts: the first is to Gourmet Music, my management team! Jon and Ian are a formidable dynamic duo that I’d be nothing without. Cheers boys. My second shoutout is to Paper Idol’s spaceship driver, Adam Rochelle. Adam built the entire live show from the ground up, co-writes the music, and also orchestrates the best post-ironic social media stunts.
