We had the good fortune of connecting with Matheus Fagundes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matheus, what role has risk played in your life or career?
To get the prize, you have to pay the price, and that includes taking risks. I’m the kind of person who would rather regret something I did than regret not doing it. I’ve taken many risks in my life, and all of them have been important on my journey so far. Even when I lost money, I learned big lessons from it, so in the end, it was worth it. I’m sure I’ll achieve all I want because I take risks. There’s a popular phrase that says: “When it feels scary to jump, that is exactly when you jump; otherwise, you end up staying in the same place your whole life.” The idea of being in the same place my whole life scares me more than anything else.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When you are ambitious and have big dreams and purpose, and you know how far you can get and truly believe in yourself, life will never be easy for you. Challenges will come to make you stronger, and I believe life tests us to see how much we want to achieve our goals. If it were easy, everyone would be successful, but we know that is not what happens. One of my biggest qualities, in my opinion, is overcoming challenges and never giving up. No matter how many times I fall, I’ll always find the resources to rise again. When you can clearly see the big picture in your mind and have no doubt about what you can achieve, persistence is key.
One of the lessons LA taught me was: stay committed to what you came for. The enemy will try to tempt you and take you off your track, but don’t fall into that trap. I want to prove to people that we can achieve and become whatever we want when we are aligned with God.
When I came to LA, I was by myself and didn’t even speak English. After three years, I’m signed with an agent, have a manager, have had really good auditions for big projects, booked one commercial for Verizon as the lead, and did two short films. I’m still far from where I want to be, but I’m much closer than when I arrived. It’s just a matter of time. I want to encourage people to pursue what makes their hearts happy, no matter how impossible it seems.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite things to do is to be in the middle of nature, and California is one of the best places for it. A perfect day for me looks like this: I’d pick up my friend for breakfast, heading straight to Tiago’s restaurant in Hollywood (they have the best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever tried). After that, I’d stop by Body Energy Club in Hollywood to order a whey protein açaí smoothie. After the best breakfast, I’d drive to Malibu for a hike, spending my day there. For lunch, I’d go to Kreation Organic. To close my day perfectly, I’d catch the sunset at Palos Verdes. That is what truly makes me happy.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Besides God, because if it were not for Him, I wouldn’t be alive anymore, there are a few people I can’t forget when I talk about myself: my mom (Adriana Fagundes), my father who passed away when I was 18 (Celestino Geraldo), my sister (Amanda Fagundes), Marcio Mehiel, and Chico Teixeira. All of them helped me a lot throughout my journey, and I’m so grateful for them.
