We had the good fortune of connecting with Mathew James and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mathew, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m originally from Sacramento Ca. I grew up around music. My brother Marty was into collecting vinyl and was a big influence for me. He took me to shows when I was young. He got me my first guitar and I started playing in bands my freshman year in high school..
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a singer/songwriter producer. I’ve been playing over half my life now. Since the pandemic started I got into producing my own music, and am now releasing it out into the world. It’s been a wild ride a long the way. A lot of ups and downs. My passion for it has always kept me going though.. Losing my parents has made me value life a lot more. It slowed me down and made realize the gifts I receive on a daily basis..Not just music, but everything else as well. My hope is to make a difference and impact through music..
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my family of friends come to visit I usually take them the Griffith Park. Beautiful red woods and views of the city. I love the farmers market on Melrose. Great vintage clothing and furniture. Always a lot fun. And a mix of people always brings good conversation.
As far a entertainment. I love Hotel cafe. I’ve seen some amazing acts there. Molly Malones is a great place to see bands as well. Six flags, universal studios, and of course Disney Land.. I could go on and on..
There’s so much diversity when it comes to food in Los Angles. I’ll stick to my favorites. It’s Pho in Hollywood, best Thai food in LA.
Blvd Taco in Burbank, BBQ + Rice, Trejo’s., and the Brazilian BBQ at a the Grove..
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It would be my Mom. She past away in 2018. She was my rock and biggest supporter. I’ve gained a lot of perspective since her passing and value my relationships and life in general . I have dear friends (too many to mention) who have lifted and inspired me. My brother has always been there by my side as well. I’m very grateful!
