Meet Matt Bachman | Musician/Producer/Music Craftsman.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Bachman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matt, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I am an artist from a long line of artist in my family. One brother is a musician, my other brother was a director of photography, my sister was a makeup artist and my father was an animator of cartoons. I have always had a love for music and the power of song. Crafting songs and writing lyrics was something I started in my early teens. Music has always been a major part of my life, with needed breaks here and there throughout my song writing journey I have found such joy and elation, as well as heart ache, from making music.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
At the moment I’m focusing on my solo project Kicked Out Of The Sky. It’s a rock and roll project that lets me express myself with all instrumentation, producing and promotion. I am the entire package as it goes. I love the freedom of creating without limits. I started producing a few years back and I am loving the experience. I find that the musical and lyrical approach and style I bring to the table is what gives my music its own flare. I am super proud of myself for embracing my own creative abilities, for a long time, I found it hard to accept who I am, what I am capable of and what drives me. It might be hard to relate but overcoming self-doubt, depression and self-hatred, at times, is unfortunately, part of the creative process and my soul. Where I am at the moment is kind of a double-edged sword, I am blessed to be creating my own musical experience, though I am not profiting from my musical endeavor, at this time, can I say success is measured in financial wealth or is it more successful to create something unique for your own love. I guess it works for me at the moment. What I can say is learning all I can along this path is super important to me, I like to say I’m preparing/practicing for luck, so once you get the lucky “Break” I’m ready for it. I am true to me and I produce what feels and sounds great to me and I hope a few people along the way enjoy my art.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being an L.A. native, I do appreciate my city. I love to experience my city, or anywhere I travel, as a tourist, meaning I love to go to unique eateries, monuments, bars, or specific hoods or boroughs that are unique to certain parts of town. I am a doer, so when it comes to heading out and taking on a new and exciting opportunity I’m in. As far as mentioning any one place I would say, Google or L.A.Weekly or perhaps Shoutout L.A. would be my go to for anything happing, new, or unique in L.A. With the current state of affairs with closures and restrictions on indoor dining, eateries, clubs and bars are not maintaining their business, so it’s challenging to mention any one place.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As life is ever churning and we are always learning and growing along our own paths there are always moments of shared experiences that enlighten, inspire and some that make you have to rethink your own movements. I would have to say that a lot of my greatest growths and inspired moments have come from those moments of failure, disenchantment and abandonment. I know this sounds dismal and sad, but the truth of the matter is quite eye opening when you realize you have to recreate yourself and not rest on your own laurels. I would like to mention all the wonderful people, places and experiences that have helped me along the way, but I would also have to mention all the ass wipes, shady hand shakers and cons as well. Let’s just say all interactions have something to offer, weather good or treacherous, if we just breath through the moment we all learn something along the way.
