We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Paetz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matthew, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
It’s our mission to create a world of transitional characters. People who embrace courage and create lives they’re proud of. My focus is on helping others understand how to create more meaning in their lives by learning how to use their pain to create a deep sense of purpose.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My story is layered… I’ve never been interested in living a conventional life, which is why I say that I’ve “dated” many careers throughout my journey. But something worth mentioning is that I’ve always known that I wanted to work with people in a deep meaningful way, and for most of my adult life I was terrified to pursue my intuition because I was afraid that I wasn’t worthy of that position because of my truths.

My work today focuses on supporting others to become someone they’re proud of. As a trauma informed personal development coach with and emphasis on early childhood survival patterns and root cause emotional trauma, I’ve learned that in order to become that person it takes an enormous amount of courage. Because it requires us to face ourselves head on. Specifically the parts of ourselves that we feel our broken and unworthy.

This was my story.

My work isn’t just a regurgitation of some fancy books I’ve read or the certifications I’ve acquired, although I do like to read… a lot, the foundation is my own understanding of how difficult it can be to overcome our struggles. I was sexually abused by an older male from the age of 5 to 11. For many years I struggled to understand my confusion around sexuality, self worth and the shame I carried, which lead to escaping through alcohol, drug use and even becoming an escort before a near suicide attempt.

It’s my mission to share my story, not for me, but for those who are still afraid to share their own. Because it’s all the reasons that you once feared made you broken that are the very reasons you’re worthy of living the life you deserve.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh man… Anywhere tranquil. Malibu hikes, remote beaches, would love to stumble into a sound bath or breathwork session. When we’re able to hang out again I’m looking forward to spending some time at The Den Meditation in Studio City.

I’m also not afraid of a good meal… ok let’s be real… it’ll be pizza.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh man… My story is filled with worthy recipients. To start I’ll say it’s been the unwavering support of the women in my life, my mother Donna, my sister Stacy & my partner Allison.

These women have been with me through all of my struggles and have given me the example of how to live a courageous life.
I believe it takes a strong woman to teach a boy how to become a man.
