We had the good fortune of connecting with Matty Marz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matty, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risk is an essential part of creating art. The very fibers of this journey are knit together by many many tiny leaps of faith.

As an artist, I’ve always felt that as long as I’m staying true to who I am & what I have to say that everything will work out in the ways they are meant to. The most exciting & groundbreaking art comes from a place of raw unfiltered passion.

Whether it’s music, fashion, performance, aesthetic everything is defined by how much you’re willing to put yourself in the forefront of that sense of danger.

and when it hits, it’s magical

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My name is Matty Marz, I’m an artist/producer/songwriter born & raised in NY but now residing in Los Angeles.

There are always many lessons & challenges to being an artist. But, I believe if you are simply born to be. One must overcome any obstacle in order to use the gifts that have been given.

My whole life I’ve studied & dreamed to one day exist in the world of my own creating & as of recently only realizing I am in fact that person.

Growing up, my interests were in acting & theatre, which gave me an outlet to express a lot of the “over the top” feelings I had as a kid. Truly, always a drama queen.

As I grew my love of pop music & culture blossomed into various art forms such as classical music, fashion, composition & later music production.

I’ve always said “Matty Marz” is the best parts of personality personified through art. Confident, loud, sexy, hopeful etc. whichever qualities I wish to embrace (even the sad or scary) I want to make sure it’s always vibrant & curated.

I take such care with my work & it is all deeply personal, even when it doesn’t appear to be. The reason I love music and especially ‘Pop’ music is because you can be whomever you want for 3 minutes. No feeling is too large or unwanted.

Today, I wish to push myself even further in my confidence & sound.. Only scratching the surface of my creative journey.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmmmm okay..

I’d have us start the day with a hike at Runyon, then brunch somewhere north of hollywood. Then a quick stop to shop on melrose, then lunch Koreatown.

After, Taking a drive on the PCH during sunset then dinner in Venice.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Dedicated to my parents. Whose strength & love has shaped so much of my vision.
