We had the good fortune of connecting with Maurizio Vidrio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maurizio, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
The reason I chose to pursue a music career is simply because I love listening to music. Anyone who really knows me knows that I always have music playing and it’s always something different, such as 70’s Rock, Opera, or Indie Pop. I make music for myself, even though it’s nice to have an audience, I know that I like what I make, and if others like it that’s great as well.
I started playing guitar at 12 and started making music at 13, at that age it was more of a hobby of mine and I never would have thought it would lead me to where I am today. And I’m still very excited to see where the music takes me in the future.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My music is like a journal of thoughts and feelings I’ve had. I make the music from scratch and I write, perform, record, mix, and master all of my songs so I feel very connected to all my music because I’m there in every step of the process. As time goes by I change and grow as a person and it’s amazing to look back and listen to songs I’ve released and travel back in time to what I was experiencing while making the song.
Being an independent artist comes with a handful of challenges. A challenge I have had in the past and still face today is finding ways to promote myself. As an independent artist, there are no big label marketing budgets or production budgets, everything is out of pocket and streaming services don’t pay out the way we hope. So we have to get creative and figure out ways to use platforms like TikTok or Instagram to our advantage.
There are a lot of things that I’ve learned as time goes by. I grow and change and so does my music. I’m still a work in progress but above all, I think the best way to go about it is to just make music, be yourself, and people will listen.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I personally take everyone visiting LA to the Universal Studios Overlook in Studio City to just hang out and get a view of the San Fernando Valley. If I’m feeling fancy I might take them to the Castaway restaurant in Burbank as the food is great and the view as well. I would also show them Griffith Park and the hiking trails along that area as well.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A huge shoutout to my parents. I will always thank my parents for supporting me in my career. They believe in my music more than I do sometimes and it’s amazing to have parents who support you doing what you love. I know that I still have a lot of goals to reach and a lot of things I want to do in my career but I know that with my circle of family and friends, I’m supported and able to just focus on what I need to do and what I love.
