We had the good fortune of connecting with Mauro Gatti and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mauro, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I suffer of anxiety and I realized that the fear-mongering and click-baiting headlines were making my condition worse. While it’s important to report problems and issues so we can prevent bad things from happening again, I believe there is so much good in this world that just needs to be found and promoted. So I’ve decided to use my talent (I am a creative person) to spread some positivity and highlight the good happening in the world. That day The Happy Broadcast was born, it’s a counter hate and fear culture project that features weekly illustrated positive news from around the world. I call them Anxiety free news, an antitode to the doom and gloom portrayed by the media. It’s a collection of news stories that highlight the work of the fixers, doers and problem-solvers in order to inspire and show that the world is not the frightening place portrayed in the media. The Happy Broadcast wants to become a trusted news source for parents and children, a place where positive, fact-checked and unbiased news can be found together with practical actionable items to make the world a better place little by little.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I wanted to create something positive as an anti venom to the vitriolic rhetoric that pervades our media. I am not a journalist or an influencer, but I want to use my art to spread some positivity. Because the negativity bias in the media is holding society back and I feel like we need a mental diet consisting of quality food for your brain. If bad news equals junk food, then good news equals fresh fruits and vegetables. I focused on creating a project to show the world what millions of people have demonstrated in the past years: action is possible, better solutions are available and a better future can be built. The Happy Broadcast is not a place where you only get feel-good news, it’s also a destination to learn and educate, discuss, share, inform and get informed. Post by post, comment by comment, I started to build an online community that now account for more than 600k amazing happy broadcasters worldwide. The project also lives in book format to provide more ways to improve our mental health. The biggest challenge is continuity, the time required to research and create the posts and moderate and grow the community is a lot. Especially when juggling also with a full time job and freelance gigs. But the motivation to provide a service that make us feel we’re not alone and that it only takes a little to get something big going is priceless. If everyone does something, we will all be part of a positive change in the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It’s covid, so it’s hard to share my favorite sports considering also that a couple fo them have closed shop for good because of the pandemic. One of my favorite places (COVID safe) is the Peanut Lake, also known as Debs Pond, in Ernest E. Debs Regional Park. It’s a peanut shaped little lake full of turtles. It’s an unlikely scenic spot, never too crowded and very relaxing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I love animals and this company is not only selling amazing candles, but also donating a large part of their profits to the Humane Society. This is how business should operate, giving back to causes you care about adds so much more value to a brand. https://litanimal.com
