Meet Max Simmons

We had the good fortune of connecting with Max Simmons and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi max, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve pretty much been dancing since the moment I could walk. Dance has always been my first love and the way I express myself—it’s how I show up in the world without needing to say a word. I was constantly moving around the house, so when I was 8, my parents signed me up for classes at Brent Street Studios, Australia’s leading performing arts school. Now, at 22, dance is not only my passion—it’s also my business. Honestly, there wasn’t much of a thought process behind choosing this path. The fact that I get to do what I love as my career? It was a no-brainer. That said, it hasn’t been easy. I’ve trained in multiple styles since I was 8, pushing myself even when I felt like I had nothing left to give. My journey has been built on relentless dedication to my craft. After finishing my formal training, I was lucky enough to step into the professional dance industry—turning my skills into my personal brand and business. Now, I get to live my dream every single day.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career as a professional dancer in Australia has already been so fulfilling—and it’s only on an upward trajectory. Some of my proudest moments so far would have to be being a lead in the Prime Video docuseries ‘Dance Life’. It was absolutely surreal to share my journey and authentic self on a global streaming platform. Another major highlight was dancing for Katy Perry at the AFL Grand Final, performing in front of a crowd of over 100,000 people. That experience was unforgettable—it didn’t feel real to be on stage with an icon whose music filled my childhood. I’m so grateful for that opportunity. Ive also worked with major international brands including Netflix, Vogue, and AMEX, and been a featured dancer on stage with The Dream Dance Company (Australia’s leading commercial dance company) and the Metaverse of Magic International Tour. Of course, it wasn’t easy to earn these opportunities. One of the biggest challenges I faced was the uncertainty of the dance industry—it can be unpredictable and tough, but you have to have perseverance to keep going. I truly believe I was blessed with these moments because I stayed persistent with my craft—even during the slow seasons. I’m the kind of dancer who is constantly training, evolving, and pushing forward toward my dreams. This mindset has taught me one of the biggest lessons: dedication and hard work always pays off. What I want the world to know about my brand is this: I am a story of dedication. I will never give up on achieving my dreams and aspirations.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many places I love going to when I’m in LA. I absolutely love hanging around Silver Lake—starting the day with a sunny morning walk and grabbing a coffee or matcha. We’d definitely hit up the Silver Lake markets to hunt for an amazing thrifted or vintage piece. After that, you’d probably find us chilling by the pool, soaking up that classic LA heat. If it’s a weekday, we might head to a dance class at Millennium or Movement Lifestyle to get some training in. On the weekend? I’m 100% taking my friends out for a margarita—either in WeHo or back in Silver Lake—and we’d most likely end up dancing the night away at a club. I also absolutely love the new bar Kassi, a lush rooftop spot in Venice Beach that’s perfect for sunset drinks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course, I have to give huge recognition to my family—for always supporting my dreams, accepting me fully, and giving me the opportunity to take dance classes as a kid. Their love and belief in me from the beginning means everything. I also want to give a massive shoutout to Brent Street—Australia’s leading performing arts school—and its owner, Lucas Newland. Brent Street is more than just a prestigious school; it’s home. It nurtured my talent and potential from a young age and gave me the skills, discipline, and work ethic I needed to survive (and thrive) as a professional adult dancer. I’m even lucky enough now to be teaching the next generation of students at Brent Street, which honestly feels like a full-circle moment. And of course, a huge thank you to the industry-leading choreographers who constantly hire me and trust in my work—Cassie Bartho, Matthew Gode, Paris Cavanagh, Marko Panzic, Alex Miedzinski, and so many others. Your belief in me and the opportunities you’ve given me to perform on stage have shaped my career in the most meaningful way. I’m truly grateful.
