We had the good fortune of connecting with MAXIM and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MAXIM, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born in communist Czechoslovakia with not many prospects of having a good and successful life. I have a twin brother whom I have always been very close with. We dreamed of escaping the iron curtain and becoming famous musicians. In my teenage years, I went on to an art school, and not long after I graduated, I left for the United States, where I fulfilled my childhood dream of becoming an artist. I have built a career as a fine art painter. Over the years, I think I have transformed my dreams into an ambition. I have always been very motivated and driven, and I think it has a lot to do with the fact I grew up with no options for a satisfying life. The desire to change my fate made me who I am today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I create large-size abstract paintings. I find inspiration in things that fascinates me. I have always been a science buff, so I draw a lot of motivation from studying physics, quantum theories, and the studies of the cosmos. So first, it is the topic of my paintings. They have to be close to my heart to achieve authenticity. I might say the paintings choose themselves, the stories they want to tell. I am merely the conduit. I also constantly experiment with techniques and materials to find the best way to suit each series of paintings because they are all different and require different approaches. I don’t want to stay still. I am always trying to push the envelope further and further, with each series setting the bar for the next. I have always wanted to be an artist. It was easy because it has always been my purpose on this planet, for it was all kind of straightforward. I built my life and career abroad, in a faraway country, but that is what I was supposed to do. I did exactly what I had to, and now I am where I am supposed to be. I wouldn’t change a thing. So if there is something I have learned along the way is to never give up and to always listen to your heart.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would most definitely take them to the beach and the mountains overlooking the city. The beach connects us with the ocean, the cradle of life, the Earth’s energy source. Everything is different at the beach. the air smells different, the world can be felt with more clarity. The mountains, on the other hand, offer serenity and distance from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Paulo Coelho and his book The Alchemist made me realize that my dreams were my reality, and I decided to follow my heart after I read this book. I have always wanted to live a life of adventure, so I did. I traveled thousands of miles to create my own life story.
