We had the good fortune of connecting with Maya Cryor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maya, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want people to remember that I was the type of person to help others, I’m a woman of my word, and I’m a woman of faith. I’ll be remembered as someone who took radical steps of faith to concur territory in the entertainment industry.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a filmmaker that focuses on underrepresented black and brown voices using various visual mediums. I’m most proud of the fact that I have continued to purse my dreams of filmmaking full time while living in Los Angeles. Professionally, I’ve worked as a production assistant for unscripted and scripted television and films. Eventually I got to meet people who could connect me to prominent folks in the industry. I’ve been privileged to work with Netflix, HBO, OWN and many more major networks and studios. I also won an Emmy for my contributions to Netflix’s hit comedy special “Dave Chappelle’s Sticks & Stones.”

The biggest challenge I’ve had to overcome is one fear of failure and fear of success. It can be daunting at times to create something because the desire for it to be good is soooo deep, but when it does become good, there’s this angst of what will change after the success comes?

I want the world to know that you can love God, work in entertainment, be yourself and have the life you truly want.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
