Meet Maya Rosalia: Singer-Songwriter, Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Maya Rosalia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maya, what inspires you?
I am inspired by females in the etertainment industry. Growing up on sets and studios, there were mostly men leading the projects. Recently I’ve been seeing so many women being the forefront of successful projects which is very refreshing and inspiring. My struggle of being a young female in the industry and society in general has inspired me to share my stories and make my voice heard. Many times I’ve been underestimated. However to successfully finish a song I wrote or play a character that resonates with people, always proves to myself and others that you should never underestimate someone.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a singer-songwriter and actress. My mom was an actress so she would always take me to her auditions when I was younger and that’s how I got into acting. With my singing-songwriting, it came from a place of pain. I was able to tell my story through lyrics and It saved me. I’m most proud of the two songs I wrote and recorded called “Rearranged” and “Confidence”. I wrote them when I was 13 and it really allowed me to grow as a songwriter. I’m most excited to release my song “Big Mistake” coming March 2021. I worked really hard on it and it was a very long process. Both acting and songwriting is hard because it comes from a vulnerable part of you. It can be uncomfortable sometimes but at some point you have to get past the fear and say “This is who I am and this is my story.”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I grew up in Los Angelas so I’d have to say Hollywood is always a fun place to go. As someone who loves music and acting, you’re surrounded by that in Hollywood which is nice. Whenever my cousins come to California we always take them to Hollywood because of how exciting the environment is.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shoutout to Ivana San Basilio and Nitanee Paris Lawson who are both strong female musicians in the industry that have guided me.
