We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Brebner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been a Type A personality—structured, organized, and goal-driven. At the same time, I thrive in environments that offer a casual camaraderie, support, and a sense of belonging with quality people. I found it difficult to find this perfect balance in the industry I worked in before transitioning to travel, and found it even more challenging with the onslaught of COVID. With my nearly insatiable drive to learn more and grow, I felt there had to be a better direction for me in the workforce. The idea of starting a travel business came to me when I was actually planning my honeymoon! I absolutely LOVED planning travel for myself and my family, and I wondered if I could turn that passion into a career and create trip itineraries for others.
I then researched how to start a Travel Agency and pursued training to become a Travel Advisor. In 2021, I took the leap and left my previous field shortly after in 2022. I realized I could build a career doing something I love, while creating a work environment that promotes health, happiness, and balance. Now, as I grow my business with a new business partner, my goal is to offer that same supportive, quality environment to other aspiring Travel Advisors. Palmhera Travel Group is a space where they, too, can thrive in the industry with a company and team that encourages and supports one another. In turn, this allows our clients to be serviced by a team that is proud of the work they put out and passionate about travel. Since making the leap into this business, I’ve never looked back!

What should our readers know about your business?
Palmhera Travel Group is a full-service Travel Agency that is made up of a small group of Travel Advisors. At Palmhera Travel Group, we are passionate about travel and passionate about curating vacations and experiences for our travelers. We help plan trips almost anywhere around the world, each of us specializing in different regions or types of travel. As a company, we not only focus on planning trips for travelers, but we also pride ourselves in bringing in the new generation of Travel Advisors. Since starting Palmhera Travel Group with only myself and my business partner, we are proud to say we have already begun to expand. We now have a small but mighty team of 6 Travel Advisors! We offer training for those aspiring to become Travel Advisors and mentor them to success, focusing on utilizing today’s technology and resources. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, travel has changed quite a bit, and continues to change regularly. One of the biggest challenges in this field is being constantly aware of these changes and being able to adapt and educate our travelers. We are proud to say our team stays educated and informed about the ever-changing conditions of world travel, and we work together to do so. Our goal is to take on the stresses travel planning can cause and remove it from your shoulders. We plan and do the work, so you relax and do the traveling!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The first place I would take my best friend is Riverside Dr in Toluca Lake. It is my favorite neighborhood because it is close to home and FEELS like home. We would start with coffee at Priscilla’s, or brunch at Red Maple Cafe. Then, we would take a hike to the Hollywood Sign (a must) before getting ready for a scenic dinner at Castaway Burbank followed by a night of comedy at Flapper’s!

The next day we would explore Beverly Hills – we would grab lunch at Bacari and do some window-shopping on Rodeo Drive before going for a night out in West Hollywood or seeing a show at the Hollywood Bowl.

One day would be devoted to horseback riding through Griffith Park, followed by lunch at Basecamp Cafe & High Horse Dinette, with an afternoon shopping at the Glendale Americana.

To venture further out, I would visit the Huntington Library in San Marino followed by an evening in Old Town Pasadena for dinner, shopping, and drinks.

Lastly, I would have to take them to Santa Monica to visit 3rd Street Promenade, the Pier, and the beach to tie off a true tour of the best parts of LA.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to my husband, Tyler, who encouraged me to pursue a career change and created the space for me to take the leap into becoming a business owner, despite the unknowns and lack of stability it could cause.
