We had the good fortune of connecting with Meghan Pulles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meghan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I decided to pursue art as a career because I think it is one of the most powerful forces that we have in the world to help people heal and deal with hard times. I want to do something in this world that is bigger than anything I could’ve ever imagined, and this is very close to that feeling.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think the one thing that sets me apart from others is that I don’t like to put myself in a box when I create. Whenever I write a song or let an inspiration take over, I try to keep it from a place of authenticity and less about being in a “pop” or “folk” genre. My emotions and feelings are there own thing, hence why I call my music emo-positive genre-defying.
I got to where I am today by refusing to give up. Despite the negative feedback, and hard times I have persevered through and come out shining in the end. It was definitely not easy, but I had to realize that this mission I have in the world to help people through their problems using music is something I have to do, not only to heal my own emotions and situations but to inspire others to heal theirs as well, and that has been the most rewarding part of this, seeing my impact on people’s lives.
Some lessons I have learned is that as an artist, be very gentle to yourself. It is so easy for us to get bogged down by negative problems within our artistic heads, but we need to realize that along this journey of being an artist, celebrating the small things is really going to help us a lot, and make us feel accomplished.
I want the world to know that I have a mighty voice, and I am not afraid to share the darkest parts of myself and inspire others to do the same.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would hang out around Broadway, we would catch a show at The Bluebird Cafe, and eat at The Pharmacy. The next day we would do brunch at Biscuit Love, and hang around The Gulch.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The one person I can think of to shout out is Mary Knoblock, she has been my confidant, my sister, my collaborator, and my biggest cheerleader ever since we got connected on the internet. Anytime I have an artistic query or even personal life stuff, I know I can count on her advice and counsel to help me through it. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her guidance.
