We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I work in digital advertisement and it changes all the time. In digital, there’s added nuances into the workflow that you must adapt quick in order to have the ad run correct on-air or on display. NBC’s Peacock’s app is still very new even to us! It definitely keeps you on your toes with the constant movement. I personally like it because I think it’s dope to learn the techy side of things.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I always have the “what’s next” attitude. There’s always room for improvement or to lend a hand with a project. I’ve used this strategy and honestly that’s how I got landed into jobs because my managers would say something like, “Oh Melissa can take this on!” or something in those words. The goal is to gain the trust from others that they would know you would know how to execute a job and do it correctly.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I used to work in radio, I would definitely hit up some of my Dj friends to see where they are playing at! To dine and chill, I would take them to West Hollywood for sure, possibly a rooftop of some sort. Most importantly, take them to Santa Monica or Malibu if they never been. Yelp and Tiktok are definitely my best friends because it will help me to brainstorm and get a feel for a vibe for the day.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, my family. They have supported me throughout my journey with guided family discussions to when I didn’t have a car at one point to take me to job interviews and etc. The colleagues I met throughout the jobs I’ve had are the greatest mentors ‘til this day. I have two sets of friends that have been there since day one, my hometown friends and then my PD friends. I wouldn’t been where I’m at today if it weren’t for their constant love and support.
