Meet Melissa Lanz: Helping good people build great systems of recurring revenue.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Lanz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
When I think back on the path to success in my business, the most important factor was failure followed by innovation. I didn’t spend too much time worrying about results. I implemented, failed quickly and readjusted for better results. Stay in action! Launch your business, listen for feedback, optimize and don’t be afraid to fail.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started my company, The Fresh 20, in 2010 from my kitchen table. I invested $2,500 of my savings into launching the initial website and I was the only employee for the first year. It was a lot of trial and error but I always kept moving. Some days were challenging and many times their was the urge to give up but it was always rewarding to hear from clients my service was helping. It’s easy to compare yourself to others and even easier to doubt you will succeed. Those were often the biggest challenges I faced. I don’t think it was a goal that kept me going, it was a mission. Impact can be a great motivator. Today, The Fresh 20 has helped over 150,000 households discover how to cook healthy at home without sacrificing time or taste. I’m proud of the journey.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a foodie so any visit to my hometown begins (and ends) with a food adventure. My best day in LA would begin with a stop for green juice at Kreation Organic Juicery. followed by a morning hike in the Burbank mountains Next, I’d head to Palm Coffee Bar on Magnolia for a macadamia nut cortado (to go) for the drive down to the ocean. Next it’s down to the beach for a walk on the strand and yoga class at Yoga on the Beach in Santa Monica. The Proper Hotel lobby is the perfect getaway spot for a chic and chill stay-cation. Sink down into a comfy couch at Parma for a relaxing brunch before a nap by the rooftop pool. Before dinner drinks are essential at Old Lightening in Marina Del Rey, a speakeasy style bar where the cocktails are elevated to genius. Dinner on Abott kinney (with a little window shopping) is a must! Gjelina never disappoints and Felix for pasta pus an immediate smile on my face. Other great snacks: Sunny Blue, Gjusta, Great White (breakfast burritos)
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My story would be completely different without the overwhelming support of Lisa Anderson of Jam City. An advisor and friend, she helped me make solid decisions and push past my obstacles.
