We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Tasslo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, why did you pursue a creative career?
Since I was a kid I was always drawn to artistic things, dance, music, theatre m,everything. Art makes me believe that everything is possible, something where most of the time you don’t need words to express yourself. Art is so pure and perfect in the imperfection. I did A little reflection in these times of quarantine. Art is not always considered important like being a doctor, engineer or lawyer, it is believed that they are “easy careers, hobbies”. But Can you imagine a world without ART? Without music, without museums, without movies and tv shows, without books, without dance ? Without musicians you wouldn’t have music to listen and relax, without painting, crafts, ceramics and artistic activities you wouldn’t know how to spend your free time, relax and distract yourself and help the creativity of the little ones at home, without actors, directors, writers you wouldn’t have any thing to see, feel understood and go to different worlds. Art is therapeutic, is the closet thing to magic, is passion, is a universal language. This is why I wanted to pursue an artistic career, to bring joy, told new stories and stories of amazing people than need to be told, to make people see they are not alone, to bring new ideas, to touch people’s soul, to bring people together. Because on the darkest and hardest days we always turn to artists.
Please tell us more about your career. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am a peruvian-spanish actress, I did my bachelors in Fine Arts In Los Angeles, I’m fluent in Spanish and English and I have lived in 8 countries and 6 cities so far. Being an actress is not that easy specially because is a big and hard industry and you have to auditions many times and a lot of times the answer will be no and people will tell you different things you should change about yourself to get the job, First you need to learn that rejection is part of it and not always you will be what there are looking for and that’s ok, second learn your value and that you are worth, learn that what makes you different from others makes you special and that’s amazing. Third is be aware that there are some fake people and companies in this industry and learn what is normal and what is ok for them to ask you and what is not, and fourth don’t lose focus and faith, keep fighting for your dreams, audition, meet people in the industry, keep learning new things and techniques. Work hard and be unique and professional.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to have my friends over and Los Angeles is an amazing city, you have a lot of things to do and there is something for everybody. first I would take them to hollywood Blvd since is an iconic place in L.A, to walk the streets and enjoy the feelings of being in this famous spot, they I would take them on a Sunday to the Melrose trading post one of my favorites things to do in L.A, is so unique, fun and you can find amazing things and enjoy a great day with food and live music, I would also take them to visit beverly hills since is s very famous spot, I would take them to Santa Monica and Venice beach and we would rent bikes around the area and have fun at the pier, for some shopping I would take them to the America at brand and glendale Galleria also one of my favorites places in L.A and is so beautiful at night with the lights and to have a coffee at barnes and nobles. I love museums and L.A have so much that I would definitely take them to some of them and for a great lunch I would take them to Korea town to have a great Korean bbq.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
they are many people that helped me to be who I am today and to get where I am today, that believed in me even when I was losing faith in myself and those are my family, my amazing friends that even if we live in different countries they are always there for me, my mentors and teachers at college that listen and helped me when I needed an advice and my favorite artists of course that showed me that anything is possible if you work hard and believe in yourself.
