We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Wong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
As a coach, I’ve thought about values a lot! A values exercise is often one of the first coaching accountability assignments I give to new clients because they can really be a foundational tool to consult as the coaching relationship progresses.

One of my top beliefs is “Belief”. The belief in everyone’s innate worthiness and their capacity to make conscious changes in their life. It’s a fundamental underpinning to my work as a coach and I’ve been delighted to see clients make big moves in their life and affirm that a lot is possible but you have to believe.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a coach for creatives and artists who who just need a bit of clarity and accountability to see themselves through to steadier habits and conviction around their creative careers. I also run a group coaching program “Search Team” that helps job seekers looking for more clarity and accountability through the search process.

I like to think that I standout in a growingly crowded market because of my trusted reputation – many of my clients are from referrals – and my considered messaging. I have heard from clients that one way I stand out is that I am able to translate the language and workings of the artistic mind and map it onto pragmatic steps and action.

I think a lot of life coach messaging can start to feel a little trite or hollow. It’s challenging to write marketing copy for a coaching business because you are in the business of something pretty high level, like ‘live a life you love’ etc. I really wanted my business to have a grounded and playful stance toward designing your next chapter. My brand – “Coherence Studio” – was designed to inspire trust and not take everything so seriously. Shoutout to Kayleigh Denner for all her help getting my latest website up and running.

I realized that I wanted to serve creatives after looking back at my previous career and personal history and realizing that I’ve always loved supporting people with a vision, with a view of how something could be done or seen differently. Artists and creatives express subjectivity and bring awareness to all of our unique perspectives. I wanted to support the people who can bring our society into new growth and a more imaginative way to live.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My partner was instrumental to me becoming a coach. He helped encourage me to really consider doing a training in the first place and helped me see that my happy place was working 1:1 or small groups on matters of the heart. He has continued supporting me through all the ups and downs that come with running your own business from being a listening ear to helping prototype new programs or products I create.
