We had the good fortune of connecting with Micah DuBeau Aka Motor Mouth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Micah DuBeau, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Anything you vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe in, and enthusiastically act upon…must inevitably come to pass”. – Paul J. Meyer

Losing my mom and my little brother she was 7 months pregnant with when I was 1, to a 19 yr old drunk driver with a suspended license and no insurance (who then got away with not even a misdemeanor because her daddy was a police officer) changed my life drastically. From that day forward life has been an uphill battle for me.

I went to about 25 schools growing up, lived in more homes than I can remember and in about 9 different states, always the new kid and would lose any friend I made pretty much within that month, was abused often in about any way you can think of, moved out at 16, joined the army infantry at 17 and was a 50 cal Gunner and dismount machine gunner in Iraq by 19.

I say that only to say, my mindset was such that “I wasn’t good enough, didn’t deserve nice things, no one wanted me, basically I was trash”. I can’t blame myself for believing the lies because it’s what was pounded in to my head quite often.

When I came home from Iraq I was so lost. Completely scared, confused, and still alone. (No one even came to the airport to see me.) HOWEVER, I met a man named Derenique Najarian who changed my thinking forever and he doesn’t even know it. He was teaching a sales class and read that quote.

I don’t know why but reading that quote in the moment, I decided that no one was able to have something I couldn’t have myself. I may have to work harder but that was normal. They weren’t better than me, or more deserving of love because they were lucky enough to have a different upbringing, but equal.

Everything was game on for me from that point. Because I wanted a lot…and now nothing was going to stop me from getting it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always had a deep longing to be an actor or hip hop artist since I can remember. Actually, I don’t think longing was the right word. It was more of a calling or an understanding that it’s where I was supposed to be. That may sound a little odd but it’s just a gut feeling I have always had and can’t explain.

Growing up the way I did, I developed a habit of putting everybody else’s needs and wants before mine if it meant keeping the peace. Couple that with being unsure of myself, and aside from taking theater & music throughout school I never allowed myself to chase the calling I had always felt. That is, until about 5 years ago.

I actually had a dream that I was in Los Angeles and a successful rapper and it was so real to me to the point that when I woke up and realized that given my situation it would and could not be possible ever it put me in a depression for the next week or so. And then, the strangest thing happened. Somehow the universe shuffled things in a way that I couldn’t have controlled it or stopped it if I even wanted to, and within a year I had left Seattle to Los Angeles to pursue it full time.

I share in other answers more of my story, but my life literally could be a movie with everything that has happened. Music is what helps me to process and get through PTSD from the Iraq War, and from growing up.

My goal aside from making dope music that people vibe with, is to write 100% authentic lyrics from my experiences and give some hope or maybe comfort to someone similar that’s where I’ve been. That would be epic.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Despite being here a few years now, I still consider myself semi new to things and learning what’s good and when.

That being said, there are for sure a few have to do things on my list such as The Hollywood Walk of Fame, Sunset BLVD at night (definitely Whiskey A Go Go at one point), El Matador Beach in Malibu, Sky Bar in DTLA, Shin Sushi in Encino, and of course we’d have to drop by some of my favorite studios here. (Revolver Studios in Thousand Oaks, The Clubhouse in Studio City, Feverr in North Hollywood).

I do know 100% for a fact we would go to Dreamscape at Century City and do all of their experiences they have. I recently did that, and it absolutely was incredible. I don’t care how old you are, it’s unreal. And then you go get waffles dipped in chocolate next door.

That’s the family friendly version.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Man, this is crazy hard because I’m only where Im at because of a small handful of superstars in my life. I’m going to keep it brief for your sake but this would be my list of VIP’s and Day 1’s:

Bob, Tammy, Jason, & Jon Foster (Took me in freshman year in college and have been my family ever since)

Cory & Irene Clark (longest standing friends I have. They have never turned their backs on me even at times when it would have been easy to do so)

Katelynne Wagner (my Media Director turned girl/best friend)

Darren Vegas (first one that gave me a shot in music & taught me the game. I will always be loyal to him and never forget that…especially given who he is)

Uncle Todd Love (pseudo uncle, idol, godlike to me. First one to ever invest in me in life and gave me the majority of self worth and work ethic I have. He will always be bigger than anything in life to me).
