Meet Michael E. Gordon | photographic artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael E. Gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Artistic careers – especially in non-commercial fine arts – can be risky endeavors. This is not necessarily the ideal career for those who require a steady and consistent income stream or a fixed daily schedule and team with which to collaborate. It may also not be a great career consideration for those that are not self-motivated and driven to find their own success. But for those who possess the ideal qualities of independence and desire personal freedom unchained from the corporate world, there probably is no better path than one in the creative visual arts. At the end of the day, I am doing exactly what I had always dreamed of doing: providing the peace and tranquility of the natural world through my images to a populace who is becoming increasingly distanced from the natural world. There really is nothing more satisfying than hearing how good my images make people feel or how they help them to get through challenging times.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a full-time professional fine art photographer and educator who specializes in California’s nature and wilderness landscapes. My current works are focused on the overlooked deserts of California and beyond.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
While I live in Los Angeles County, I spend very little time in or around people or cities. I favor the wild sides of California where few people or business are typically found, but in Los Angeles environs, the Getty, The Huntington Library and Gardens, Griffith Park, and the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens are all special places in which to encounter nature and/or view excellent art.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have been teaching classes and workshops for The Los Angeles Center of Photography (a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization) for about a decade.
LACP is a photo center devoted to advancing the skills and increasing the personal enrichment of photographers of all experience levels and ages. The organization offers nearly 150 photography classes and workshops each year, programs a variety of community events, supports artists through group and one-person gallery exhibits, and produces four annual contests/exhibitions. I am grateful that LACP invited me to be one of their instructors and I’m thankful for the creative energy and training they provide to scores of new photographers each year.
