We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Lin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the most important factor behind the success of Mannies of L.A. is my ability to take risk, potentially fail, and repeat. You won’t find success if you’re comfortable. I’ve learned to redefine what success means to me and now understand it as not an end goal but the transformation that happens on that journey as a business owner, both professionally and personally. I’ve taken many risks and have have put myself out there over and over and over again. The majority of the times that I’ve done that, I would say I financially failed. However, it only takes on time to get in front of a prospective parent that needs your help. I’m willing to fail 9 times in a row in hopes of succeeding that 1 time.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Mannies of L.A. is primarily a male nanny agency. We separate ourselves from other nanny agencies because we provide families with the best positive male role models. There’s an imbalance of male and female role models for young children these days and those times are the most crucial times in a child’s life. Those are the years they are building the foundations to their beliefs, love for learning, empathy, and more. I’ve always been the type of person to start new businesses. I’ve been doing it ever since High School, but none of them lasted. The difference between this business and the rest is because it’s something I strongly believe in. There’s nothing better than to hear a parent tell you how much you’ve made a difference in their life and their child’s life by finding them the perfect male nanny. I would love for people to look past the stereotypes of men wanting to work with kids and to understand the importance of having positive male role models.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m all about exploring a city on foot. I love the arts district in downtown LA. There’s so many cool hidden spots such as bars, museums, tiny galleries, boutique shops, and breweries that you could easily miss. I could spend a day there exploring by foot and then eat at Little Tokyo!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out those closest to me that have always been there for me both professionally and personally.
