We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Obadja and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It started with a dream long ago; as a family we were always hangin’ out at the kitchen counter with all our friends. As my brother in law; Chef Aya, would cook up a storm we would share the food and laugh together—food tasted better because we shared. It has been this way since we moved to America over 15 years ago. We did this almost on a daily basis where everyone had a seat in our house to enjoy fellowship over amazing food. There were times when life wasn’t easy but we’ve always had one another. And together is a beautiful place to be. These communal experiences became the DNA for our dream to create a space where people get to enjoy family while enjoying an elevated home made food. We held on to this dream for many years until we met with the right partner and investor that have experienced this lifestyle of family that we have have cultivated and believed in the dream to the point of investing and the rest was history.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We are also a local church planter who loves the city of Chino Hills and we wanted to build a business that will be a blessing to our city and neighborhood. We strongly believe that when we put people first; profit can always follow. For us the saying “Together is a beautiful place to be,” is not just a beautiful statement on our wall. This has been our lifestyle that we every person that comes to Take Ur Seat, would be impacted by this experience through the atmosphere, service, and food.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are plenty to do in the city of Chino Hills and the surrounding cities. We love little authentic spots. For Japanese bentos there is a spot called Ojiya and this is among so many, too many to type out out one by one.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We thank God for His amazing grace because we won’t have anything apart from His good gifts. Shoutout to our senior business partners: Herry and Debora Tarigan; for their continual guidance and their involvement in investing—as well as the whole entire build out process. Props to our amazing church family and friends; who rolled up their sleeves and helped in the building process. We want to thank the city of Chino Hills for the amazing support of local businesses. We are ever grateful for the support to all our customers who have faithfully supported us for over a year.
