We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Lin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking is only scary when you think about what you want to do, but not taking the actual steps to do them. I had a full time job before having my now four year old son. I knew that putting him into a daycare, or in the care of someone, was not an option for me. So, I have very little time to quickly prepare something that would allow me to care for my baby while I worked. The risk of quitting a stable income to one where it’s always up in the air is definitely scary, but rewarding one. Today, I get to continue to do what I love and also watch my son grow to the little man he is!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I create little things with a yarn and hook! This art is called, crochet. There are lots and lots of people that crochet, but what sets me different is my obsession for mini items. I love putting my little creations into a scene with mini items. It really brings everything to life. Nothing is ever easy in life. It’s just about being consistent and keep going. There will be days that are happier than others, and on those days it’s okay to take a break. But, I would say being consistent and still loving what you do is how you will be “successful” and get to where you want to be. I create, because I am literally addicted to the smiles my creations bring! I love seeing the smiles. For as long as my creations bring a smile, I will keep going.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely be taking my friend to Crafted! It is the hub of all creatives! It’s a spot where vendors get to share their handmade goods! It’s so awesome to get to support small business, but also getting to meet the person that made them! And yes! You will also find my shop inside Crafted! You’ll also meet lots of exciting people here. Right across from Crafted is “Brouwerij West”! They have Craft Beer, Belgian inspired styles, Hazy IPAs, Pilsner and more! Personally, I don’t drink, but if I did, this is where I would be! We will go to 6th street downtown San Pedro to “Ko Ryu Ramen” to get some noodles. They have some tasty noodles. I love spicy foods and they have some noodles you can pick the level of spiciness. I ask for level 10, but I won’t judge if you start at 1! Also the taco truck parked between 10th and 11th on Pacific, “El Habanero MX” have some pretty tasty Al Pastor tacos.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love to give a shout out to my son, Aiden! He’s the one that gave me a chance to become a mommy. I had to become brave pretty quickly and went from thinking of only myself, to being responsible for another whole human being. I’ve grown so much as a person in the last four years, than I ever did in my previous years of life. How one little person can change your whole world is beyond me. He’s the reason I get to do what I love. I also love to thank you to those that have followed my journey. Something so simple as pressing the follow, like, comment on my social media pages to actually purchasing some of my little creations. I definitely wouldn’t get to do what I love without you guys! Thank you so much!
