Meet Michelle Steele | Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Steele and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
When I was 10 years old, I started sewing by hand my own creations and when I turn 12 years old, I started to sew by machine. I then created my own line called Cover Me Wear which are summer trend fashions. They are stylish trends that you can cover up bathing suits with or just wear out in public. I came up with the Cover Me Wear idea with my mom. Together we thought it would be a cool name for the fashion line. They are long polestar hoodies and see through ponchos. I also designed and created many ponchos for the winter season that have fur on them. These winter season ponchos sold out within a single winter season. I had my first event when I was 12, at a mansion and ALL seasons of my Cover Me Wear ponchos sold out. I was in a magazine called Celebrity Society with Opera Winfrey as a cover of the magazine telling my story in the magazine of my fashion line Cover Me Wear. It was amazing! It did not end there as I had momentum; it was only the beginning. I also came up with new ideas for my business after that. I came up with and a Unique Asian line and started my business called Stardom with colorful jewelry and accessories which are all custom made by hand. I created new names for other new fashion lines that I have been doing such as Butterfly Revival, Beautifully Fierce and Under the Sea Onto the Shore, I have been doing this for 15 years now it’s my true passion in life. An ultimate dream job where I aim to inspire others to find their calling and passion. My goal is to give people happiness, confidence and ideally enjoyment in creativity through what I have been doing for 15 years. I would love to own and operate my very own studio one day.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My small business stands out from the crowd I call my fashion business Stardom that is handmade clothing, jewelry, and accessories. Why did I name it Stardom because it means to shine bright like the stars or to inspire others in your work. Yes, my jewelry does inspire others, they are colorful, unique, trendy, and it does stand out. They are costume jewelry and accessories the clothing does shine bright like the stars like high end fashion, and they are very trendy. I ‘am most proud of all my designs in fashion. I love what I create and showcase to everyone what I have been doing it’s exciting to showcase in different fashion shows. I got where I am today professionally through my jewelry and accessories. I did fall short in the middle of my career, but I have never given up doing what I love because I am more professional today then I was before and
for the last 12 years I have accelerated in growing my customers. It was not as easy it takes years to get things the way they should be you have to take time to show or sell your brand and build it up to where they should be. But I overcame the challenges by not giving up and coming up every time with new ideas then going to every event to show my brand and it took me at least 8 years to get better. I have overcome the impossible for years by living my dream job and God has my back working in the midst of my creations he has given me this gift and I am forever grateful to him. The lessons I learned along the way it’s okay to make mistakes you can get better by trying over again. I want the world to know to never give up on your dreams. You should ask help from others in your business and if you are a Christian ask God for help, he will lead you forward in your gifting that he has given you. I want to inspire others with my business. I want to make people feel good about themself the inside and outside that’s what’s my brand represents.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I take my best friend out to the movies or to an event happening now to show them the best time ever. I also will take them to the spa, Little Tokyo or K Town to just enjoy are time together. We would have sushi or Thai food and drink boba tea or drink mocktails. We will visit and hang out at the mall or at the beach. The interesting things to check out are the different types of events like entertainment or shopping experiences.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate to my mom Trish Steele. My mom Trish Steele is an ambitious leader, a mentor and beautiful woman inside out. She owns a charity called Safe Passage Heals which helps abused women and children in need of help. In her past, she has done fashion designing, modeling, acting, beauty pageants, and a makeup artist. She also has written 4 books, is a philanthropist and always follows her dreams in what she desires. She dedicated her life to God for it. Why does she want to help out abused women and children? Because she was once to a victim of DV by her stepdad and her fiancé. All she wants to do is give back. She inspires me so much what she has done in her career and what she is doing now.
