We had the good fortune of connecting with MIDRA and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MIDRA, what do you want people to remember about you?
Like every artist, the most important thing that we have is our art, our creation. It is more important than personal image, social media, likes, views, streams, and other metrics that seem to define an artist and his work nowadays. As an artist (singer, composer, musician), I work every single day to create an arsenal of music with the hope that it will be recognized and appreciated. My dream is my music echoing for generations, impacting new moments in the future or being in the affective memory. The legacy is what we build during life, and that even when we are no longer in this world, it will continue to speak for us. In this construction, you put your heart, feelings, ideology, social criticism, etc., which will make a difference in other lives. This is the purpose, have my art being part of a moment in the lives or history eternalized in memory. My legacy is my art.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
To talk about my music career, it is necessary to explain where I came from. I was born in a small and poor region in the northeast of Brazil called Palmares. When I was 4 years old, my mother and I changed to a big city called São Paulo, lot of opportunities, challenges, inequalities, and everything else that a metropolitan city can offer. My mother worked a lot to maintain us while I grew up in the streets in one of São Paulo’s suburbs. Why am I told you about it? Well, in the ’90s, those who grew up in this kind of region would be hardly able to have highlighted in something. I had to make a big effort to leave this area and dream of having a music career. It doesn’t set me apart from other artists, but it’s necessary to recognize that I needed to be focused, learn by myself how to walk in the right way and pass through prejudice. I learned that it’s necessary to believe in your feelings and in your heart independently of circumstances and restart every day until you feel realized. It was not easy, but I could it and this experience is on my music. Then my music is about having a dream, being persistent, encouraging others to believe, realize and love. I am still walking on this path and maybe far from the goal, but the most important is this awesome journey. My music will connect with people who need to believe it’s possible to make (your) dreams come true. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I use to say: Nobody gets anywhere by themselves. During my trajectory, some people helped me (and still help) to continue following my dream and build my career. They are: Julio Mossil (Music Producer), Fabio Hataka (Audio Engineer), Rodrigo Leite (Musician), and also each fan that supports my music. But these people only could help me after I decided to do the first step and this initiative became after I watched the movie “Into the Wild”. A true inspiration movie that changed my life and gave me the courage to do what I really love. Music.
