We had the good fortune of connecting with Miggie Wong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miggie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Arts keep me alive and teach me to survive.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My recent project, 14 Days Quarantine Meal Drawing Project, shares my quarantine experience in Hong Kong. This project documents 42 pre-ordered and contactless delivered meals. It also publishes a collection of mementos and forward momentum under the impact of Covid-19.

While stepping out the hotel room is prohibited, daily meal delivery becomes the only physical exchange I receive from the others. I observe, consume, and reflect on each meal. This scheduled routine becomes the structure of my drawing routine and the essential activity in my quarantine.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m currently in Hong Kong, so let me share a little about the city of my birth. You can do so much within one week in Hong Kong, public transportation is convenient and fast, any direction can take you to a food paradise. Besides the subway (MTR), I highly recommend hopping on the historical trolley, commonly referred to as “DingDing”. Browse the city from the upper deck, from old buildings to high rises, from import merchandise to family owned local business, from speedy pedestrians to leisure onlookers, you will always find enthusiasm and inspiration as you go.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

Lots of shoutout here!

First of all, I am always grateful to have my family and fellows to support and encourage my art practice. As English is my second language, I would like to give a special shoutout to writer Caroline Chang @WordsAndCats, for her great help to voice out my authentic ideas into my writings.

I would also like to give a shout out to the following local bookstores in Hong Kong for currently carrying my art book, 14 Days Quarantine Drawing Project, on their shelves for purchase!

– Art and Culture Outreach, @artandcultureoutreach

– Bleak House Books, @bleakhousebookshk

– Book-B, @bookbhk

– Kubrick, @kubrick.hk.2001

Lastly, shoutout to two passionate curators Danielle New and Hanna Corneliussen, who featured my new felt houses in the exhibition, Standing, Still. Thank you for their hard work for continuing to honor artists’ sweat and tears!
