We had the good fortune of connecting with Miguel Mike Medina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miguel Mike, what’s your definition for success?
My definition of success is not about how much money you make or you’re famous. Success to me is about meeting all of your goals. Success is about happiness. Your happiness matters. I’m creating my own short films, I’m successful. I created a web series, I’m successful. I have my own production company, I’m successful. Are there more goals that I want to accomplish? Yes. But as of right now, in my life, I feel successful.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started as an actor first when I attended City College of New York. I did two plays before I graduated. After graduation, I kept studying and working on the craft. A year and a half later, I began to write, produce, direct and star in my own films. I try to stay away from stereotypes. Therefore, I create my own opportunities instead of complaining.

Today, I have won 29 awards for my work. I love creating my own stuff and be my own boss. It’s a lot of responsibilities, but I’m very proud of how much I’ve grown as a leader in my department. I just want people to know that you have to be fearless, keep going, keep trying, and surround yourself with people who are just as hungry as you are.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would say Miami is the first place that comes to my mind. I love the culture there and everything that offers. I took a friend of mine for the first time to Miami. Great sports town, great restaurants in Ocean Drive and Little Havana.

I love the Cuban community and their culture, food, history. There’s just something about Miami that makes you want to go over there often. I’ve been to Miami about four times.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I always start and finish with my family. My mom is my biggest supporter and always the one who’s always in my ear. I also want to shout out my best friend Kevin Rodriguez. He’s been instrumental in my career with his knowledge, support and constructive criticism.
