We had the good fortune of connecting with Miguel Bandeira and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miguel, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
”Comparison is the thief of joy.” – Theodore Roosevelt.

Nowadays with social media and with everything being digital, it’s so easy to get caught up on people’s work and their journey as an artist/photographer. I do think it’s helpful to be aware of what’s trending and whatnot but to let that be the focus of your career is a mistake. I like that quote because it works as a reminder for me. It’s important to remember that my journey will always be different than my neighbor’s and that I have to be grateful for how far I’ve come.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have only been a photographer for three years, if not less. I believe my art is still in development, growing and changing as I am. It hasn’t been easy to get where I am, but believe it or not, I actually enjoy learning from my mistakes. I understand the importance of my art’s current situation and how it will either benefit my career or serve as growth for the future.

I have learned quite a bit in the past three years, but the most important lesson is to always listen and to always be open to people’s opinions and learn from them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am new to the area, but so far I could say that I would take them to Jon & Vinny’s for lunch, Hermosa beach on a hot day and Santa Monica to hang out.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I will always be grateful for my brother, who showed me the art of photography when I was only a child. To my brother-in-law who encouraged me to buy my first film camera and start my career. To my best friends Ethan and Joshua who have always supported my career and encouraged me. Last but not least, I want to recognize my wife, Roxanne that has been my support system, my motivation, and my best friend. I am grateful to have such an amazing person to live life with, thank you for believing in me when I didn’t.
