Meet Mikale | Artist & Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mikale and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mikale, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It’s truly the only thing I have ever wanted to do. It’s hard to imagine myself pursuing anything other than this life of creation that I have always imagined for myself.
I feel most alive and in tune with myself when I am able create
I usually have about 10 things I’m working on at once and shift my energy between them all so I don’t get burnt out and it keeps it all so exciting!
My creative expression has taken many forms throughout my life and probably will continue to do so
I am a creative being who thrives in a world of creation. Grateful for all the opportunities that present themselves to me, grateful to be here on this planet, grateful for everyone who supports me and what I love.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My main goal is to shift my art into the most sustainable version possible. I source many materials from a creative reuse center here in Salt Lake City (clever octopus), and have been collecting plant materials to use as paint. I also have quite the stash of recycled paper I plan to recycle into my own artist paper.
Right now in this phase of my life I work with many different mediums and textiles. I am also a Microblading artist (permanent cosmetics) and have plans to dive deeper into that world as well
I have a lot of new projects in the works I’m really excited to share including a website!
It took me a while but I feel confident that what I’m creating is a unique expression and everything I make now I love.
Once I stopped making things because I thought “someone will like this” and started making things because it felt good/natural and because I really liked it I felt like I found my “style”.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite food places in SLC and what I get: The Ramen Bar (umami bomb ramen)
Buds (barbacoa sandwich)
Redmond heritage farm store (grass fed burgers)
Skewered Thai (yellow curry)
Pretty bird (chicken sandwich)
Mad dough (anything these doughnuts rule)
Tea bar (Rose boba tea)
Curry fried chicken (shawarma wrap)
Caffe Molise (butternut squash ravioli)
Publik coffee (love their coffee and fancy lattes)
I’ve been such a home body lately but I love riding my bike around and hiking the bonneville shoreline trail and looking out over the whole valley.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My partner encouraged me to start taking myself seriously in the art world a few years ago and I’ve grown so much as an artist every year since. He is a musician (Nicholas James) and they are very much a reflection to me in this life, having constant support for each other in our craft helps us both thrive as creators.
My mother I think is and has always been my biggest supporter since day 1 <3
So many people and strangers and music and movies and life experience has shaped me as an artist.
I’m so inspired by seeing other people do what they love and hope I can also guide others on their most creative/authentic path.
